That is what we did in australia, now deaths involving guns are extremely rare, the only people being shot are criminals and the occasional cop.

The reason you say "deaths involving guns" and not "homicides" is because there is next to no relationship between Australia's 1996 legislation and a decline in the rate of of intentional homicide.

Sure there is when population growth is accounted for.
Also, zero mass shootings.

Hence saying home defense.

Regards to public carry, that's the part regarding a non effective safety measure with net negative impact. Let's be real draw your firearm out in that and you're more likely to be shot and harmed if in a violent situation where gun use is warranted.

I am pro gun ownership, but there's clear use cases and staying strapped up or keeping it in your dash is clearly quite silly. And very much so results in more misuse than self defense.

You would have to have your head screwed on backwards to believe otherwise.

But you're the type that thinks they have control because they have a firearm when American lives detoriate significantly all around you, wealth gap widens and everyday Americans are left behind but you know you got your gun so you have control. Ain't no government going to take my gun. Meanwhile the average American is getting fist fucked by gov't, and corps left and right.

The entire thing is laughable.

The phenomenon of foreigners obsession with US gun culture seems like subconscious projection from a deep historical misunderstanding. It's plainly spelled out in our founding documents bill of rights, further clarified in DC vs Heller. Gun ownership, in US has always been, at the core about ensuring the safety of the free state. At the time written, free state meant your local community. It's the counter to the fist fuck. Hunting , home defense, carry conceal are negligible next to the weight of security of free state.

Empirically hard to quantify the saves from firearms. Easy to quantify the body counts and spin BS.

You're not free. It has been long time since force has ever been required for select groups to control the US populace. It's dominated by wealth, lobby groups, large corp and gov't and you best believe the average American will and does eat shit willingly if any of those groups ask it.

There's no uprising because the average Americans life has gone to shit. No, instead they get fat and pretend they have control from the lazy boy because they got their gun.

There will be no tinfoil hat uprising of the population. It's going to just be in a likelihood a slow but continued erosion of quality of life as you see a bigger and bigger wealth gap. That's the actual reality, not freedom because you can wear a handgun to the mall.

Homicides per capita had been trending down for a decade, and aside from a spike a few years after the laws passed, have trended down since.

You can look up global rates of gun ownership by country, cross reference it against per capita homicide and let me know when you find the correlation. You'd get a better assessment polling Americans on the street.

Yikes I really do wish I could see without any doubt what George Washington thinks of the united states now.

A better critique would be from James Madison
