Looking for ideas on which merc gear and merc auras work best for the various sorc builds.

Are you asking about a merc for a sorc or specifically the sorc mercs

Just wanting to know what people use for their merc items and auras for the different builds. Light/cold/fire.
Like Pharaohmon said holy freeze aura but that isn't really needed on a cold sorc. So the merc setups can vary a bit and I'm looking for ideas.

Cure helmet
CoH armor
Insight or Infinity weapon

Reduces poison and curse duration
Leaches life and gives resists
Provides cool auras.

For cold sorc I like act 2 might Merc with Reaper’s, Gface, and Treachery/Fort. Act 5 Frenzy with Grief/Lawbringer, Arreat’s, and Fort is decent too.

Insight or Infinity
VGaze or Anderials or Gface
Fort or Treachery
Holy Freeze or Might

I like to go Reapers, Treachery, Gface, & might if I need him to kill immunes.

I know you seemed inclined towards a town guard since you asked about auras, but I have actually had act 3 mercenaries being most succesful. Of three being in act 5 hell only one have died, and just once. The setup is being packed with damage reduction gear and resistances. Sol runes and resistance jewels in the swords make up the bulk of the gear.

How do you play your sorc?

Erratic / Tele spammer that relies on an Insight for merc?
Can deal with monster hoards without merc and the merc is for the Boss Kills as a Tank? (Reapers or Pride)

The above two are pretty much the obvious ones... Might Aura of course. Holy Freeze is only used if you aren't confident with Static in close or your Merc doesn't leach enough hit points during Boss combat (so have a Life Tap wand on switch, after all pre casts before boss kill).

Depends on your game play, not the merc... build a sorc that doesn't rely on a merc, then you are golden.

EDIT: sorry, forgot about Infinity... now that is a great merc weapon ... but I believe D2:r has Sunder charms that help your sorc out for immunity?

I'm playing single player so I'm doing alot of chaos/baals. So yea it's tele static & alot onto the skellys but the skellys really slow the runs.
Items like infinity/COH are a long way off for now but g-face, insight and trech with might aura is good. I didn't really think to use might aura so the post has helped. Also the life tap buff helps when doing certain quests while building up the sorcy too but not really needed once you level up to the 90s.
Also for the record for ladder style runs or new char builds I had alot of success with tals helm, gladiators bane and eth bonehew with shael/amn. That got me to the end till I started to upgrade the merc.
