There are a couple guys i work with who throughout the day constantly open their phones just so they can start playing online slots for a couple minutes, it is mega cringe. Of my friends who enjoy sports ball I don't think there's a single one who doesn't, at least occasionally, toss some cash at a game. People clearly enjoy gambling on their smart phones. Perhaps too much so?

Honestly let em cook. More children are gambling than ever, its faster and easier to lose everything you have than to earn enough money to buy one meal for one person. And ten new websites waiting to rip you off are popping up a week.

If you cant be an adult for yourself or your kids then youre going to find out what consequences are the hard way.

Ive dodged the sports betting entirely. not through willpower, but because the indian casinos in my state lobbied lawmakers so only they can do betting in Wisconsin. and the longer i dont do it but hear of people losing their whole life to it the more glad i am.

if im gonna gamble it will be on crypto, at least there's no house advantage just random chance.

Gambling on sports or at a casino is totally fine if it's expendable cash.

The only time gambling is bad is when the person gambling has a family/ is in debt and dead broke.

For example I gamble on my favorite hockey team that I've watched for 25+ years and so when I do "bet on them" my "odds" are better and I've won more money betting sports then any casino.

Sports you can actually use some foreknowledge to make a bet. My Dallas Stars lose to certain teams every season no matter the standings so naturally I win those bets.

You cannot say the same for slots which are based on an algorithm. This means the machine is guaranteed to pay out but you'll be taxed on it.

If you sit down and play Blackjack, Rolette, Craps, Baccarat(all table games) your odds are 1:1 this is because you can lose every damn time and never be paid out.

I won a college football parlay last year $150 to win $40,000 and on the last leg I decided to take the money $15,000. I would've won the full 40 but I was smart enough to know 15 grand is 15 grand.

No person should gamble if they have any car/house/college debt or even a family and kids.

I'm single and make a lot of money every year so my bonus goes to going out and having a good time.

I lost 17k last year in Baccarat alone but I love the game and atmosphere.

Have I known people where gambling ruined or was about to ruin their life. Of course. Real simple. Don't gamble if you don't have money.

I enjoy playing poker; it's a question of the rake bb/100 vs your bb/100 advantage over the rest of the table. If you have no reasonable expectation that your win rate exceeds the rake coming off the table, you shouldn't play.

The same goes for sports betting. If you're among the 1% turning a profit, have at it, but the other 99% aren't winning enough to cover the house's cut.

A: Yes, it should be heavily regulated. A gambling addiction is on par with hard drugs in terms of damage to the family unit.

I generally feel like ide lean libertarian on some of these type of issues but personally this is a net negative to society.

Vast majority of people lose money. These companies with sports betting and even other type of betting basically have algos and complex models that really formulate these bets and payouts against the players IMO. Like many of those parlays or teaser bets are good ways for the house to clean people out.

I watch the NFL and it has objectively gotten worse with sports betting being introduced over the last number of years. Lots of game changing ref calls. Lots of nitpicky calls that fuck the spread.

Anytime you introduce a huge profit incentive there will always be temptation for someone to put their hands on the scales.

libertarians shouldnt support sports betting either, its not a free market. as soon as you show a track record of winning the app will start to reduce the amount you can bet, if you continue to win you'll be throttled further. sometimes down to literally a penny per bet. it's a rigged game.

gambling ruins lives and should be harshly condemned by society

it's predatory(sports betting)
it's ruining gaming (gacha games)
and the companies that run gambling thru sports or video game gachas very much intentionally look for the weak minded individuals that will whale out to their services even if they don't have the money to be doing so in the first place, and very few states give a single fuck about it and it's so obviously predatory

evil scumfuckery and it's not even close

like commercials for smoking or drinking force you to state the dangers of the product somewhere on the screen, but 99% of all gambling ads make it seem like you'll always have a good time when 80%+(probably more lets be honest) of their customers are being scammed legally
