I can imagine worse pain but faster healing process. Smashing the finger completely could result in loss of nail or fractured bone. But yeah it sucks that fingertips have so many more nerves.

You could be more exact with a bite, and leave a lil flap where it starts to hurt towards the top.
A massive floppy skin would drive me insane.
