I'd say it was a fair deal. I was expecting 4-7, seeing how more proven goalies been traded for less like primeau and tarasov. Gibson is far better than any of these guys too and didn't fetch much.
Better to get something than lose him to another team through waivers, possibly even oilers?! Who just needs a clutch playoff goalie to win the cup!
I'd be more focused on how there's a good chance the Canucks can keep Hughes and sign him to a huge 8yr extension next off season. Cuz the new CBA kicks in and it'll drop UFA deals to 6yrs and 7yrs for teams. So that's a huge advantage for the Canucks. However if Hughes doesn't care about 15-30mil and just wants out, that also gives the Canucks a huge leverage for trades. As they can sign and trade a prime Hughes to 8yr deal rather than just 7yrs, or if they wanna risk him and go with 6 in UFA.
