The tone of this topic implies that California is losing business, when it's the opposite overall. That's why every year when you look at state GDP rankings, California is somehow further ahead even though it sounds like it is dying in the news. The size of California (4th largest economy, larger than Japan) means many businesses always be leaving simply due to scale. A better example than In-N-Out is Hollywood dying and entertainment industry leaving California.

Saying that California is a bad place to raise kids is a political statement. You might think it's bad if you think competing against Asian kids and facing high standards that maybe damage mental health is bad. You might think it's the best place to raise kids if you look at the schools in California and the results they achieve

Are you refusing to acknowledge Texas gaining ground on California? You’d be arguing against nearly every economist in the US.

California will ALWAYS be a major economy but they have lost a lot of slack lately.

EDIT:
Worth noting that it’s most likely highly tied to the belief that Texas will surpass California’s population by 2045 according to many economists.

I didn't say Texas even once. Don't be insecure.

Texas is gaining ground on California if you go by percentage change in GDP growth (not nominal growth). If you go by other metrics (not GDP) there are areas where Texas dominates California and it's not close. States aren't defined by one number

Lol at 2045 predictions. Let's see what happens in the next 1-2 years first. Things will change pretty fast if AI takes jobs or US goes to war with China

That’s true. I don’t expect US to go to war with a major power. It would guarantee MAD. Especially if Trump is president.

He is the first president in my lifetime that I believe would use nukes if his ego got hurt enough.

MAD isn't guaranteed, because modern warfare involves proxies and non-traditional fighting like over social media.

You might joke and say social media doesn't matter, but AI deployed at large scale to manipulate millions of Americans mentally should be an act of war IMO

I’m not a fan of social media. In fact, I don’t use it. These forums are the closest I get. I do believe it has altered the minds millions and millions of people.

I do believe Trump to be just crazy enough to use the full arsenal.

until tech and hollywood leave its basically nothing. Ag can't and wont leave, the weather is just too good for too much of the year to even consider growing elsewhere.

anyone with dreams of cali falling off economically are dreaming. its run by braindead libs who overspend on EVERYTHING, and still find a way to have a budget surplus.

Although not even close to a Fortune 500 company In-N-Out Burger is moving its HQ out of Cali. This is way more significant than most California fans will admit as In-N-Out moving out of California is the Equivalent of Whataburger’s HQ moving out of Texas.

In-N-Out is so Iconically Californian (though it does have restaurants in other states). However, the most disturbing part of this change is Lynsi Snyder the owner making the statement that Cali is not a great place to raise kids or doing business.

It’s important to note overall the company’s worth and growth have expanded under her leadership and she even cracked the Forbes 400 wealthiest individuals in America and was the youngest Female billionaire in 2012.

This woman is a financial HAWK and most experts expect her to expand the business even more.

The move is expected to lose California about 500 jobs (mostly administrative positions, HR, Advertising and Customer Service positions) while adding an equal amount or more to Tennessee. That’s for the HQ alone. Snyder also plans to consolidate all non-restaurant based jobs in California into one location in Baldwin Park possibly costing thousands more jobs.

It’s HUGE. GDP and Tax wise.

Republic National Distributing Co. is also leaving California cutting over 1700 jobs. Luckily it’s just jobs and revenue lost. That HQ has always been in Texas I believe.

Anyone have any clue why Nationwide isn’t going to be taking any new policies in California? Are they going out of business? Or is the housing market there off right now?

The only people that think taxes are political are people that think they should decide where they get spent after paying them.
