Maryland utilizes a multi-faceted flood warning system to alert residents to potential dangers. This includes both technological advancements like IoT sensors and community-based initiatives, such as the MdReady alert system and outdoor tone-based alert systems. These systems work in conjunction with established emergency broadcast systems and weather alerts from the National Weather Service.

Do you think more states could use such a system, and who should pay for it?

Should the state pay for it, or be a federally funded program?

Thursday, July 3
The National Weather Service issued a flood watch early Thursday afternoon at 1:18 p.m. CT, that highlighted Kerrville, among other locations, as being at risk of flash flooding through the night into Friday. That watch forecasted 5 to 7 inches of rainfall for the event.

Friday, July 4
A flash flood warning, upgraded from the earlier watch, was issued for parts of Kerr County at 1:14 a.m. CT on Friday.

Then, a flash flood emergency warning was issued for Kerr County at 4:03 a.m. CT, followed by one specifically for Kerrville at 5:34 a.m. CT.

Ultimately, the most deluged parts of Texas saw as much as 15 inches of rain, more than double what was forecasted the day prior.

Again, you can't make an genuine thread for civil discussion.

Straight to political statements and blind hate.

There's a reason your last thread was closed and there's a reason this one will close. You were wrong before and you still are.

You get off subject going into a political rant and you aren't civil and you can't have genuine thoughtful discussions.

You aren't just having an open discussion about a subject and you sure as hell aren't respectful towards an opposing view. That goes for anybody with any belief/political stance.

If you say so..... Now back to the topic,

The Department of Homeland Securoty provided funding to Maryland for flood mitigation. DHS Science and Technology Directorate assisted in 2022 with flood sensors.
