Texas GOP is incapable and incompetent at emergency management. We don't have to bother blaming the head orangeman in the white house, the inevitable truth is that the most egregious and proximate failure was on the state of Texas and it’s Department of Public Safety. No flash flood warnings? That's on Texas and its local governments, because the NWS actually did its job and had issued this PARTICULARLY DANGEROUS SITUATION/Flash Flood EMERGENCY alert at 4:23 am.

Blame republicans for over 80 deaths in Texas.

In the end it costs more than keeping them. It just shows that random cutting ≠ efficiency.
That's why it's actually very hard to reduce spending by a significant amount.

that's funny because you guys freaked out over LA fires. Taking a dump on people that lost everything?

But what i could agree on is that such disaster will be inevitable in the future, we better start thinking how to prepare better together than playing the blamegame.

Alerts generally aren't handled at the state level. Flash flood warnings are issued by the NWS, which they did. And the Austin/San Antonio NWS station was sending out cellphone alerts in advance of the flood. The campground was sending out cell phone messages telling people to evacuate. The local police and county do not have any means to send such messages, only an opt-in web notification service that nobody is signed up for, and a facebook page.
The flood hit in the middle of the night when people weren't watching their phones and was an abrupt and unexpected and random flash flood, and in an area with poor cell coverage.

Maybe the sane reaction to this kind of tragedy isn't to go around trying to find how you can best stand on top of the corpses and harangue your political opponents, but to appreciate that America (and the world) have a long history of pretty regular natural and unnatural disasters that kill people like this. This one wasn't caused by a dam failure like so many, nor by building a city in a floodplain. Its not easily preventable nor the result of human failure.

Fun fact, I interned in the math department of an insurance company ~15 years ago. Their biggest problem at thr time alresdy was that uncommon disasters became more and more common over the years due to climate change. You know which clowns also do not believe in climate change?

My heart goes out to the victims and my contempt goes out to the GOP politicians who at least killed some of them and to their ignorant defenders for enabling them.
