The word "imminent" seems to be doing heavy lifting in much of the discourse I see online, as it's the War Powers Act that's being invoked by people who are supportive or at least permissive of Trump's recent actions. I haven't the slightest what the truth is, but it is interesting to see how much influence Israel is having on Trump's decision making, given Bibi's continued naming of the "imminent" threat of Iran having nuclear weapons that spans decades, while Tulsi says our intelligence had no confirmation of such an imminent development.
The text of the War Powers Act:
(c) Presidential executive power as Commander-in-Chief;
limitationThe constitutional powers of the President as Commander-in-Chief to introduce United States Armed Forces into hostilities, or into situations where imminent involvement in hostilities is clearly indicated by the circumstances, are exercised only pursuant to (1) a declaration of war, (2) specific statutory authorization, or (3) a national emergency
created by attack upon the United States, its territories or possessions, or its armed forces."Imminent" threat? There was none.
