Yeah i understand your point, it's not very fair. But what are the options?

A) don't jail low profile criminals (ankle bracelet for example)
B ) Heavily invest into prevention
C) Treat them like dogs and increase total costs by higher chance of having a repeated offender. Waste of more Taxmoney, workforce and increased crimerates + higher number of total inmates, lower security for good citizens, higher police costs.
D) Kill them
E) current system

There is no real option without downsides.

Obviously not. Rubber bullets, tear gas, other disbursements perhaps if it's property destruction and other illegal things.

Do you think government in history has ever enacted any change at all from people being peaceful and and quietly standing on the sidewalk? No. Just because as a society we are vastly better off now does not mean you eliminate all free speach and expression. Should criminal activity such as destruction or looting be treated as such, yes. Should live ammunition be used, no.


While yes you have the right to vote let's be honest most of the times the representative or representation is pitiful and certainly not always inline with the general populace. You think just looking and republican and democrat members of Congress net wealth change in their time in office are representing the masses before self interest? Give your head a shake.

Protest offers another outlet and it should be maintained as such, relinquishing freedom of expression to government control is borderline heading down a dictatorship road. Pretty slippery slope after that. Protest has been pretty fundamental to where we are now and as I noted we are vastly better off now than say 100 years ago.
