They were, they believed Hamas wouldnt try something as bold as they did.

So were they caught off guard because they lacked intel, or because intel was dismissed?

Are we still saying after all of the Mossad moves we've seen on display, that Israel was well and true caught off guard about 10/7?

This argument doesnt hold merit in my opinion, and this is because they were right on the border. A bunch of dudes could easily launch an attack with no way of intelligence knowing about it, and that's exactly what they did, they attacked directly at the border murdering and raping as many civilians and children as they could find before retreating back. An absolutely pathetic dishonorable worm attack, which warranted their complete destruction.

It was Israel's failure to not secure the border, but this wasn't an intelligence failure, it was naivety. The people didn't call for a stronger border because they believe the Gazans would never do that, that is, they thought they were human.

They also managed to get the Iran regime destroyed too, because we all know that Israel's true casus belli is not nukes in Iran (they've had fissile uranium forever) but their involvement in the attack. Played themselves

the information sharing is two-way, mossad benefits ENORMOUSLY from american and british intelligence. israel is also one of the biggest perpetrators of spying and exfiltrating sensitive US information

The U.S. already has major military bases in Qatar (Al Udeid), Bahrain (U.S. Navy's 5th Fleet), Kuwait, UAE, Saudi Arabia - the 'geographic location advantage' is completely overstated

i'd argue the fact that the US supports Israel so strongly makes diplomatic relations even WORSE in that area. we should stop supporting genocidal maniacs like Netanyahu full stop

not to mention they rubbed out one of our presidents because they wanted the nuke. Time to cut the rabid dog loose!

There was intelligence indicating preparations, but the prevailing belief was that they couldn’t truly harm us.
We were caught off guard—half of the Gaza Division was at home when it all began.

I served in the navy, in a unit that used to gather intelligence deep behind enemy lines.
But intelligence means nothing if the higher-ups aren’t willing to accept it—or if it doesn’t align with their worldview.
This time, they got it terribly wrong.

Their missile attacks are mostly causing damage in residential areas.
Yesterday, a missile landed near an oil refinery but caused no damage.
The Iranians are estimated to have around 2,000 missiles and have already launched about 400.
At a rate of five major targets per night, they can only sustain this pace for another eight days.
The IDF has the capability to keep pressuring them to the point of collapse.
The only acceptable outcome is for Iran to agree to completely halt its nuclear weapons development.

During the First Gulf War, when the U.S. attacked Iraq, we were targeted by Iraqi missiles and the situation was even more dangerous, as we didn’t have the Iron Dome for protection back then

in fairness this is a good informative post.

from what I am reading (fact checking), Israel estimates Iran has 2000 ballistic missiles, of which 370 have been already been used to date. Israel believes that once this figure (of 2000) has been exhausted, Iran will not pose any further serious threat (other then that posed by proxy, which is negligible).

lets not kid around now, this is a naked act of aggression by a rogue regime that threatens the peace of the region, with a strong majority its people cheer-leading war. For well over a decade Israel has wanted to wage war with Iran.

Handcuffs, Many_names assertion here is also my view - Israel did not believe the...animals, that (using their words now) were less then human... (or untermenchen as they might call the Palestinians) ... could pose a threat to Israel.

i.e. Israel had wind of the attack but it was not deemed a credible threat.

It seems I've heard before about stockpiles of rockets that will only last 2-3 days and the senseless bombardment of homes with weapons costing as much as a whole neighborhood
