So I'm currently running older hardware as I never really play games with super high reqs but I'm on an i3-10100f and 1070 with 16gb ram and a 2tb ssd. Now I'm just wondering if windows 11 would slow me down a lot if I upgrade?

I have been contemplating upgrading but its hard to justify when the games I do play run relatively decent for my standards and I don't ever really plan on playing high resource demanding games

if u keep the computer offline as an airgapped computer to never be connected to the internet again after October then sure i guess you could stay on Win 10
but if u plan to keep the internet to open internet browser or whatever as well then would just start learning about linux

there a "Pewdiepie on Linux" thread over at the "Science, Technology & Nature" d2jsp subforum with youtube videos to learn more about moving away from Windows:
https://forums.d2jsp.org/topic.php?t=106231115&f=90
It runs the games better than on Win 11 as seen per the benchmarks

or I guess u could also just gives to the Stockholm Syndrome and being forced to upgrade to something u dont want to just because that's what big Miscrosft chose to so they actually own your computer instead of you

You'll want to shift away from using w10. For security reasons.

You may see lesser performance in a lot of game titles switching to a Linux distro as you have an Nvidia GPU, but it's only a few %.

Windows 10 will stop being supported in October, so unless you want to purchase the extended support for $61 a year that doubles annually you will need to find another OS to go on. 16GB for Windows 11 out of the box will most likely limit you unless your games are super lightweight(like OSRS). Since you have 2tb of storage you can always install Windows 11 on a seperate partition and see how it runs before fully switching over to it. I highly recommend getting Win 11 23H2 if you can since 24H2 has a ton of issues

I ended up downloading and installing win 11 a couple hours ago and played about 45mins in each of the 2 games I play and everything seemed to stay pretty consistent in fps, well it only mattered for one game which was the heavier resource game I'd imagine. So far so good though. I do however hate this new task bar on win 11, seems like they almost tried to copy mac. But I didn't like win 10 so I imagine it'll grow on me lol

I was very hesitant upgrading from 11 as well, but honestly after a week you really don't notice a difference. I do miss the old right click menu sometimes, but you can still use it by holding shift then right clicking
