Leftists think their preferred opinions are morally correct, believing themselves to be on the right side of history. They feel justified to force their ideology onto everyone else in a top-down manner; there are no discussions to be had, those who dissent are pathologized and removed from the public discourse. The very first pride event in OSRS was incredibly controversial and generated tons of negative feedback. What happened next was nothing but a microcosm of what has been happening for the last 10 years. Biased reddit moderators deleted comments which offended their deeply held beliefs. Jagex mods muted and banned players for voicing their opinions against the pride event. Everyone who disagreed with the addition of the event were labeled as "hatemongers," "alt-right," "bigots," etc. thus morally justifying the behavior of moderators in silencing all opposition.
"At any given moment there is an orthodoxy, a body of ideas of which it is assumed that all right-thinking people will accept without question... anyone who challenges the prevailing orthodoxy finds himself silenced with surprising effectiveness."
For a game which established itself as following the will of the players via polling, the fact that Jagex opted to ignore polling the pride event, and for that matter all the other DEI nonsense leftists love, is quite indicative of where the players really stand on all this garbage. When the CEO announced "the content... is now controversial in a way it didn't used to be" what he means is that leftists have lost their cultural power to just force everyone else to go along with their will. As I've heard many times before: "if you don't like it just quit." Here's to hoping all those people on reddit follow suit on that advice.
