I'd rather see some arrests for vandalism and arson than marines and national guard mobilized without congressional approval.
Congress' silence is damning.
Trump thinks he's king because he's not being checked
History will not remember him well
history remembers quite well that in times of violence the president always acts, not congress.
by the time that congress meets, debates, votes, revises legislation, then votes again, then it's signed, the whole thing will likely be over. or at least the underlying facts will have changed enough to make the legislation unviable.
i dont think the national guard here is a good look either, but its not because national guard present the scary threat most people claim. its because the riots themselves have been largely overblown, most of the events have taken place in 1-2 square blocks, mostly around ICE headquarters in LA.
this could of course change, and has. there's been some expansion, and last night looting was reported for the first time since the start. usually once the looting starts things get out of hand, FAST.
in this sense trump may have accidentally done good, because national guard will already be present to prevent looting, when typically they're called in once looting has ransacked entire business sectors.
its a mess, caused by bad messaging on both sides. Newsom and the LA mayor pretending things are fine when they're clearly escalating. Trump and co. pretending its apocalyptic already, when its just brewing and localized currently.
