It's been a great 4 months from the "yeah but if trump wins we wont get violent like they did" crowd. burning people's cars was a fun development i didnt see coming.
I am still reasonably confident that if Trump had lost the election we'd have seen at least
some terrorist / riot / assault / etc incidents from the far-right. Fewer, most likely, but its an impossible situation to compare
Its also notable just how vain and entirely masturbatory the violence from the left has been. Remember with the benefit of history, political violence and terrorism has often taken the form of sustained pressure campaigns to effectuate an actual goal like the troubles, or direct hostage taking and demands to get prisoners released, or attacking very high profile large targets aimed at inflicting maximum carnage and trauma. What we've seen instead is people throwing their lives away to murder 1-2 random innocent people, for vague reasons that will not change the political landscape except perhaps to harm their own movements. Luigi Mangioni didn't take a health care executive hostage and demand the erasure of medical debt or something like that, he just shot some random suburban dad. The Zizian cultists killed their landlord. This guy killed a christian+jew couple who were peace activists seeking to uplift the palestinians. The IVF bomber stopped fewer births than Donald Trump has with his mistresses.
This is not just a reason to mock the left, its an important observation: There is a streak of nihilism and impulsive hatred against society which doesn't seek to be constructive or serve a cause, only to tear down everything around it. What was going through this gunmans mind when he reloaded his gun and shot the innocent woman multiple times as she tried to crawl away with her last few moments in life? That he's helping the Palestinian cause?
