I noticed Jack Black has picked up several movies that are video game adaptations lately. Video game adaptation movies aren’t unheard of of course but they aren’t super common either with only usually 1-2 (at most) made a year on average. Do you think he’s aiming for them for some reason? I mean … Super Mario Bros , Borderlands & Minecraft in a relatively short span. Or do you think it’s just so happens 3 roles he likes popped up that just happened to be vide game based?

He s familiar with the games.
He pulls people (certain age group) in to go watch the movies.
He gets mucho dinero.

plus those roles have a certain comedy/goofy thing to it, he does well with those roles.

Even though I am an Arcade game fan from the past, I didn't watch Mario Bros' or Borderland and I wish I never watched Minecraft Movie, so, I doubt I would watch other other ones either.

Maybe he just like those roles and plays them better. Don't know who the writers' are for those movies, but whatever.

patrick h willems did a video partially about how video game movies are becoming the "next superhero movies", for lots of reasons such as big fan bases, lots of ip to work with, bla bla bla. around the 11 minute mark of this video he talks about how many video game movies are being made recently, at one point talks about jack black

my guess is its probably more the writers/directors/studios (jared hess ((minecraft movie director)) also directed jack black in nacho libre) wanting jack black and their perception of his persona/style fit for the genre

also jack black has been popular with young audiences since his first hit really, School of Rock (2003)

jack black was not familliar with borderlands and minecraft he had to do his research on the games for his roles

he said it in an interview

just his name brgs a certain audience

I am not young, but I really enjoyed this movie he played in... in reality, he was more infamous here than in any other roles he played in prior.



I believe this since I am an arcade gamer in the 80's could have beaten the Defender record held by a Yank for 24 hours playing... I believe it was like 22m held by the yank in 24 hours... sorry, he is short 6m points.

Above sentence... this is what arcade records were back then, it is funny... Space Invaders had a method that no one knew about with the Saucer max bonus points.... 9,999 was maximum to hit #1... however, it is the first person to reach that and will remain on the #1 list, all followers are 2nd to last... top 10 players.

Because that's literally his job and brand... to make kids/funny movies. Why are there are more game movies...maybe because its the latest trend... Who cares
