The new cba hurts small markets
It was designed to prevent dynasties

So okc will win this year
Maybe next year too

But then they'll have to pay everyone and won't be able to afford it

All this to stop the warriors

Yes? The NBA is a business. Philly is the 4th largest market in the NBA. When they were openly tanking their revenue was abysmal. They werent selling tickets or merch at home, and it was impacting road games too. Ratings plummeted, etc. The league relies on their biggest markets to carry, hence why they intervened and forced change (and literally changed the draft format).

......

Trading Paul George and later Westbrook for young/unproven pieces and a bunch of draft picks was literally the definition of them starting the tank lol. They went from like a 50 win team to one of the worst in the league all within a year. Nobody had SGA pegged as an All-star let alone their franchise player and league MVP at the time of that trade. The Thunder made that trade sending PG13 for the 5x first round draft picks + pick swaps.

You obviously didnt watch the Thunder a few years ago? Its well known how blatant they were with their tanking.

Except Prestie worded it as "reposition, replenish, and rebuild" because he knew he'd get fined by the league if he used the word tanking. They tanked HEAVILY, but they also drafted really well. Racked up a fuck ton of draft picks and hit with a lot of them. And OKC is like the second smallest market in the league so they weren't gonna intervene.

in the last 15 years they made 1 pick in the top 5. doesnt seem like the league rewarded them

It’s hilarious some fans think Hinkie was some NBA genius who was thwarted from world domination. The bigger issue is Hinkie was an asshole who was flaunting the blatant tanking while the NBA was moving towards getting in bed with gambling institutions. The 76ers were too outlandish with the lengths they would go to lose games. You can lose 60 games and the league is fine with it… but when you’re purposely sending out bench players on a team already low on talent, that’s as close to fixing games as it gets in the POV of Vegas

Also look around, you can get rehired in the NBA if others view you as talented despite doing deplorable shit. Look at Udoka, Kidd, KPJ, etc

The fact is nobody thinks Hinkie is this talented genius that they want to hire. He isn’t blacklisted, he’s just unlikeable

Didn't say they rewarded them. I said they didnt intervene.

The league literally removed Hinkie from office, blacklisted him, and forced Colangelo into office. All so they could get back to "trying" and make more money (hint: Colangelo just fucked everything up).

The Thunder? Small city team, nbd. Let em do their thing.

You don't think it honestly had more to do with the fact that their tanking was so blatant that their attendance dropped to 13,000 for years , their revenue tanked, any team they went to visit also lost money on tickets and revenue because no one wanted to watch a bunch of bums play who didn't belong in the nba , they had the third worst record of all time
and it was clear that even after 3 years of this - that Hinkie had NO plans to try and do anything except tank more and get more picks....

The NBA didn't step in until all the other owners and the fans of the league were so disgusted by how blatant the tanking was that they had no choice....

For a perspective of how bad and blatant 2015-2016 was the 76ers before the NBA stepped in

their Minute Per Game leader was Ish Smith, who not counting of his two short stints in Philadelphia was a bit player/role player who averaged about 5ppg the rest of his career

Nerlens and Okafor at least were young players - they were bad but it makes sense to play them minutes, so a pass here

Isaiah Canaan who like Ish, was a fringe bench player who somehow played 26 minutes a game in Philly despite being awful

JaKarr_Sampson a D League scrub who played more 300% more games in his 1.5 seasons with Philly than he did the rest of his entire fucking career

Hollis Thompson another D league scrub who outside of the "process" playing as a scrub getting 28 minutes a game in Philly being awful --- played a total of 9 other games before being cut and vanishing

Like it wasn't like the 76ers were just not a good team - they intentionally sent out a roster of fucking bums that had no business being in the league
