The bum they traded away was top 3 in MVP voting and top 3 in DPOY voting the year prior 🤷‍♂️

He was also almost 30 and was coming off a fluke season -

He averaged 28 ppg when his previous high was 23 ( a 22% increase over his previous career high )

2.2 steals when his career high was 2.0 ( 10% increase )

8.2 rebounds when his career high was 7.0 - ( 17% increase )

While being in the middle of his career averages for fg% , 3% and ft%

He didn't become a better player, he just had higher usage and was almost guaranteed to come crashing back down to earth and was about to get old ---- it was a terrible terrible trade

Which is why Masai didnt trade pascal and picks for him to get Kawhi to stay

SGA drives to the rim more than anyone else in the league. Over 20 drives to the rim per game. You'd think people with just a little bball IQ would understand when you are aggressive and attack the rim instead of settling for jumpers, you get fouled more frequently....

SGA is also insanely good at feeling the defender and positioning himself to draw the foul. His feel for the game is all-time. Hes not super explosive he just plays at his own pace and forces the defense into tough spots. Drawing fouls is a skill.

Also..

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander ranks 23rd in free throw attempts among players who averaged 30+ PPG since 2005 — and just 12th Most FTA by an MVP since 2000.

Maybe the ‘foul merchant’ talk is overblown 😬

Huh? Or how about he hit his prime NBA age....

PG was a 5x All-Star with multiple all-NBA and all-defense honors under his belt...all prior to even going to the Thunder lol. He was electric in Indy and if it wasnt for LeBron he may have had a ring. Then he went off in OKC and made a run for MVP.

He's a future hall of famer. To call him a bum in his prime is WILD. Hell, he was an All-star just a year ago and had his best shooting season of his career at 33/34 years old. Safe to assume his first season in Philly was an anomaly more than anything else.

I mean I'll grant you calling him a BUM is a stretch - although relative to SGA alone he's a bum

but even that "All Star" season was 22.6/5.2/3.5 which is ok

Sabonis was 20/13.7/8.2 on WAY better efficiency , Top 10 in both BPM and VORP and was shooting over 61% by the ASG
That's a joke that PG was picked over him.

And yes any player that gets 9x all star appearances is going to the HOF - the HOF isn't what it was --- Amar'e Stoudemire is going to get in for Christ's sake

Paul George is a great player , and I regret saying BUM - but the trade was still massively lopsided and a massive overpay for what is essentially a career 20/6/3.5 player who is an outstanding defender, he's an average all star with longevity, not a generational player
