Depends what you are doing. If you're just an all inclusive beach goer, yeah no one does this. If you're backpacking through parts of the EU, or over in Malaysia its pretty common.

Same with the nomading the fad, its super common to disguise being American.

Also just known as flag jacking.

At least for me, this is not a reality unless in the last couple years. Done a few nomad treks across Europe, no one cared about US origins really. If anything, received special treatment even in places like France. Similar in Asia, was not a concern at all. Usually just the British were drawing attention.

Most foreigners don't actually buy into the stereotypes is what I'm saying, just a little tit for tat joking sometimes. The Maga Koolaid Flag Thumpers are the segment of the population NOT** doing most of the actual travel abroad.

You come visit USA to get that experience

There's undoubtedly obnoxious individuals from most cultures, Eastern Euros at resorts, North Americans in South East Asia, etc. Americans are just going to get the label because they represent the largest amount of visitors from North America and without a doubt there is some cultural differences. Flag jackers are those who are usually pretty cautious individuals, and individuals going into your less established accommodations lets call it. Is it needed, no, you can likely just show curtesy, show you care by learning some language and customs ahead of time prior to visiting and be polite and no one will care.

But it is still a thing for sure that's alive and well.

I wonder what our resident Singaporean friend just out of curiosity thinks the average person thinks of visiting Americans. Probably not much but i'd be curious.

give us your ranking on top 3 worst visiting countries.

For me in Canada, fucking Ausies on ski-hills. The lifties and staff are amazing which are all ausies, the wealthy ones visiting on vacation, man they can be brutal. Tossing beer cans all over the hills. So in that sense, its class level not where they are from.

I’m from Canada, I am not any more “scared” to go to the USA than I was before. I just refuse to go and spend my money there (not that I expect anyone from USA to care). Our closest friend has attacked us on pretty much false information. I will spend my money in Canada and on Canadian products. Trump keeps referencing tariffs Canada has put on USA in the past. They are quota tariffs and have never been met or paid once ever.
Also to talk about the “trade deficit” Trump talks about is a misrepresentation of facts. Of course USA will buy more total dollar value from Canada than Canada does from the USA, there is 10 times more people. Meaning there are 340m americas importing from Canada and only 40m Canadians importing from USA. Of course the total dollar value of imports will be bigger from the 340m people importing. If you look at the trade deficit per capita, Canada is at a massive trade deficit to the USA. Meaning the average Canadian pays more than the average American on imports, way more.
Our economy is so reliant on the USA because of this (we always thought the leader of the USA would be reliant on facts). Not the case anymore, our most trusted friend betrayed us on nonsense. Which is why Canada has to become more self reliant (a good thing).

I’m for healthy debate but people just seem to spout nonsense and just take Trumps words at face value, but are complete nonsense (the attacks on Canada are nonsense anyway)

We have a trade deficit with you. No amount of creative thinking leads to anything but we import more than we export and this is still true per capita.

I do agree you and most counties should be more self reliant especially militarily.

I love and respect Canada and hope that what Trump does leads to more sustainable USA global relationships and that he figures out how to have more inclusive messaging.

I really hope they create a reasonable path to citizenship for non criminals in America and apologize when mistakes are made.

Impossible not to make mistakes when the open border crowd literally incentiveized people to come here illegally for decades (most likely to benefit the elites by suppression of labor costs)

Tons of stories of Canadians getting randomly arrested and interrogated.
Forced to unlock their phones and computrs for US agents/police to go through or they get arrested and removed etc.

Your cops have gone actually crazy.

I mean, wouldn't you expect a trade deficit with your neighbour if you're a country that needs vastly more energy because you have a significantly bigger economy? Remove energy exports from Canada and you're in a trade surplus. Trade deficit is not always a negative thing. Its only become a negative thing since some guy started screaming on stage.

I mean, look at Canadian energy export to the USA and trade deficit / surplus and the lines move together. The majority of US crude comes from Canada.

The majority of Canadian oil goes to the USA, over 60% of your crude comes from us, that's not a bad thing for either party. Canada is rich in energy to be exported. Be it hydro or oil.

I used to feel this way. I’ve said many times on here the last few weeks that I feel the way Trump is handling Canada is wrong but I don’t feel that way anymore. As more and more Canadians show their narcissistic and entitled behavior over the last 2-3 weeks I view them no differently than I view an “ally” like Saudi Arabia. Utterly useless with nothing more to offer than energy items we could produce ourselves if we cut some of the red tape.

You expect no pushback with the amount of silly 51 state rhetoric?

Come on now. Someone going to sling stuff like that you can't expect that no one gets upset or decides to prod back.

Yes I agree, trade between two neighbor counties is a great thing.

I don't have an issue with trade deficits if we didn't have huge unsustainable debt.

Out debt stems from many issues and I think Trump is just trying to do what him and his people think are the most effective in terms of handling our debt which is imo a global security threat. Also trying to spur investment in American manufacturing which also has to do with military and global security.

Does Canada tax energy exports? I know the middle east does and it seems smart.
