I am curious if you swap out your gear AFTER you engage EP's with your ML setup does the loot take the ML gear into account or is the loot determined when first engaging the EP'S

For example, you run into eps, hit one of them once go to town then put your ML gear on, will the loot take your ML gear into account or is it the gear you first engage them with?

I hope someone may have an answer to this as any overspawns that would result doing this would be proof enough that the killing blow with the ML gear means the loot is the result of the ML gear equipped at that time

You’ll more than likely get a lot of different opinions on this. I think (could be wrong) that ML is calculated on kill for regular monsters and EPs, meaning you can swap before the killing blow is dealt.

Whereas with well monsters, ML on the main drop (the actual items that you dropped into the well) is calculated when the item is first dropped in. All side drops, however, are affected by ML on kill.

There are theories on drops being negatively affected by gear-swapping, towning, or even using skills/kiling the EPs too quickly.

Curious to see the input here as I haven’t seen a topic about this in some time.

well for instance if someone was to get an overspawn drop from an ep when first engaging with no ml but on swap they do have some ml..... that answers part of the question, perhaps some people have tested this with wells too.... perhaps dropping the main and then swapping to ml gear for the last hit.... would be nice to know for those of us exploring, sure MQing could be an extra handful of hours while keeping ML gear on 24/7 but at least you could make an educated decision on whether or not to swap or not and to your point, when it would be beneficial or detrimental

What Vaeflare shared is accurate. ML is calculated from the player that lands the killing blow at the moment of the kill for everything but the main well drop (item dropped into the well that gets upgraded) which has its ML calculated on drop.

And yes, swapping gear often does affect the drops and I’ve found that it usually does so in a negative way, so I am one of those people that plays with ML gear on always instead of swapping. However, many players have found sexy drops while swapping items as well. It’s obviously hard to tell which strategy would work better for a given drop since you can’t kill the same mob twice ;)

Hope this helps!

certainly provides much more clarity, TY!

i tend to wear my ml gear exploring most of the time as well, only got about 20 climbs under my belt so dont have nearly enough experience with LS to come to any conclusions yet
