Could you help me understand a couple things from this story as I have not been able to find it myself.
What was the reasoning for the two charges being stayed? In this case, does staying the charges mean they could still be brought at a later date?
When charges are stayed, they are not enforced. The judge can just arbitrarily refuse to impose the sentence and instead hold it indefinitely. In theory a stayed sentence is supposed to reapply if someone commits another crime, but Minnesota uniformly ignores that and never reapplies stayed sentences even for people who go out and commit another felony. That's why when we have 30+ year olds who get arrested for murder we find out they have like 5 felonies in a row all with stayed sentences. Its Minnesota Magic.
This has been the norm in Minnesota, its not even revolving door prisons because this case is somewhat exceptional in that he is actually going to a prison at all, instead of just getting a free pass. Pretty much up until murder.
The feds led by Andrew Luger did a massive crackdown last year and arrested like a hundred known gang members all with numerous felony gun charges, shootings, etc and actually put them in prison, because its the feds
