lol superior, you're poorer, have less jobs, have shit climate and depend overwhelmingly on the US for your economy.

Quite as noted throughout. You just cant focus on anything other than a high home price. I am staring to understand Americans misery though now and why you have no concept of measuring happiness. Not sure it exists unless its a greenback.

How's the happiness level of the average young family in Canada trying to save and buy a house for 700k when they make less than 100k? Money doesn't buy happiness, but being unable to afford basic Maslow's hierarchy of needs things sure puts lots of pressure on happiness levels.

It's a huge thing of importance for the average young family that's why i focus on it. Your government completely fucked young people with its immigration policies that brought in millions with all of these people clustering in already high density areas like GTA/southern Ontario/Vancouver/etc, while avg Canadian salaries adjusted for inflation have stagnated.

I have no ill feeling towards Canada tbh, i hope the country does well, prospers, young people can afford things and so on. I have family in southern Ontario btw. It is a great country, but IMO, not as great as the US. We have more variance, as in more poor and more rich, while you guys have more stability and not the same extremes. Not inherently better or worse, but I'd prefer the former 10/10 times.

I guess lucky for us we have higher home ownership rate so guess that need is more met than Americans.

You have a much lower population and a lot of space. Makes sense. Prices are lower to help with depreciation.

However I will say where I live you can get a house for 600-1000 a month rent/rent to own.

Buy for like 50-100k or a trash place for 30-40k

What's the deal with these $400,000 mobile homes I see for sale in Yellow Knife?

Dunno. I know I got a 5bd 2bath recently for 120k.(older but very nice historical newly renovated)

It depends where you live. If you are dumb and buying a home in a huge city you can expect crazy prices. Of course in the big cities normally “low paying” jobs pay more too there.

My father in law runs a prefab(mobile) housing establishment and his sell for 50-150k BRAND NEW.

(I live in Texas)

Cost to build in Yellowknife is very high and land is very limited because everything is land claims around it held by YKDFN. As a result everything's land lease outside city limits which are very small. That's why YK lots are so tightly packed together dispite it being in the NWT where it's just empty land all around it. Even for cabin lots dispite all the land it's a land draw lotto system for lots.

Yellowknife is nice though, again worth the cost for young people looking to live off the normal track. Base salary for anyone with a 4 year degree is also great comparatively. You can walk out university into low six figures and that was 10 years ago. I'm sure not much has changed.

Still have a lot of friends there. It's economy is totally linked to the diamond mines though and when you has giant mine and con mine going which are right in YK times we're booming there. Now both are closed and Diavik is going into care and maintenance / closure.

Suburbia is even more expensive than most inner city spots in the US as they are “generally” nicer areas.

No land that came with this particular house (which I intend to turn into an Airbnb) other than the three lots that came with it.

We got our 117 acres for about $1500 an acre.

Airbnb in the boonies?
Is that viable?
