this reminds me of that play where ty montgomery steps out of bounds on the kickoff and people were acting like it was the greatest thing they ever saw when devin hester had already done the same thing a few years earlier

80s scoring was higher than any season from 1990-2017

90s ball was just at a slower pace and then the pace ramped up around 2015. Add to that the stat nerds telling teams they need to pump high volume 3 pt shooting and how much defenses are handicapped

Even legalizing zone while implementing defensive 3 seconds inevitably meant that there would be more ball movement, outside shooting, and transition. The leagues executives themselves mandated that the game be sped up and opened up more by gradual rule changes for 20 years now….
