https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/russia-lays-out-demands-talks-with-us-ukraine-sources-say-2025-03-13/Putin has
formally laid out his terms for a permanent peace deal, granted they are exactly the same as before but now its in response to this ceasefire offer;
- No NATO membership for Ukraine
- No foreign troops in Ukraine
- Recognition of the DPR/LPR/Crimea as part of Russia
Lavrov said more or less the same thing in his interview today.
Compared to the status quo ante and the current status quo, the west really stands to lose nothing.
/e also they are
realistic and generous terms, not "give us everything east of the dnipro"
Surprised they aren't asking for Kherson/Zap. Kherson can put the screws on Crimean fresh water as they did between 2014-2022, while Zap gives Ukraine access to sea of Azov, and it's also one of the most fertile Oblasts in Ukraine.
Although this is from the article:
Quote
Those earlier terms included no NATO membership for Kyiv, an agreement not to deploy foreign troops in Ukraine and international recognition of President Vladimir Putin's claim that Crimea and fourprovinces belong to Russia.
TBH i do not see a scenario where Russia gives Ukraine access to sea of Azov, IMO that would be a big deal and a big loss. I still think a big stumbling block and point of contention is going to be:
1. What happens to rest of Donetsk (Kramatorsk, Pokrovsk, etc) Russia obviously wants that land.
2. What happens to rest of Zap/Kherson. Ukraine is not going to give up Zap city. It's a huge city and important industrial city and pretty valuable.
