Why exactly does Canada need wildly unfair trade agreements balanced in their favor? Can't they just compete 1 for 1? Why do they need to be coddled?

LeShawn, I'm not talking about the recent tomfoolery going on between posturing boomers trying to make a deal. Apparently there have been over 200% auto parts tariffs on Canadian exports for years, for example.

You'd have to provide a source for the 200% auto part tariff, that just doesn't sound right, especially since autoparts go back and forth between countries for construction of vehicles, in Windsor for example. So the autopart comes from USA to Canada, the vehicle is constructed in Canada, and then brought back to USA. How does that make sense to tariff the autopart, then tariff the fully constructed vehicle?

Anyways, the "wildly unfair agreement" statement from Trump is hilarious because it was Trump that made the agreement. Source: https://www.nbcnews.com/business/economy/trump-signs-usmca-trade-deal-replace-nightmare-nafta-n1125526

Did anyone watch Trump today talk about the 25% terrif on on electricity that canada was threatening.

He said "It doesn't make sense that our country allows electricity to be made in another country and sold into the united states, who made that deal!"

Guy, you did in your first term.. under the USMCA and you called the the best deal ever.

Is this Joe level dementia?

Some parts by the time it goes from ore to metal to refined to added to an engine block and eventually put in a car will go back and forth 10+ times. Its crazy how integrated everything is at this point / entwined.

I ask again, why does Canada need to be coddled? Why do they feel entitled to an unbalanced competitive environment?

I don't know it does sound plausible, they did try to tariff exports with electricity.
The United States cannot put taxes on its exports per constitution, seems scummy AF already.

By what metric does it show that Canada is being coddled at all? Do you just take Trump's words as holy scripture?

Today, March 13th, Trump announces 200% tariffs on EU alcohol, champagne, wine, etc.

Because there is American champagne that needs to claw its way back into business? This mindless mogul needs to be stopped.
