Thanks for sharing Tarisus
You shouldn't thank him for being so much wrong lol
Here's why his maths make no sense at all...
It may be a bit harder to understand for the common human being, as we are not looking at flat amounts of damage like any other spell in the game, but at a spell that deals damage based on a certain % amount to targets around that will require to be dealt 100% or above to be killed from 1 CE.
The build I linked has :
20 flat fire pen
-85 from conv
That's 105% fire pen vs non-immunes
else immunes are set to 58% fire res (95 - 20 - 17)
He wants to replace FF and faceted shield for a 2/20 2x facet + spirit
so 10 flat fire pen instead
That's 95% fire pen vs non-immunes
else immunes are set to 68% fire res (95 - 10 - 17)
Using amp
-100%dr vs non immunes
immunes are fully affected due to the phys sunder, so they are set to -5%dr (95 - 100)
now the important part to understandCE deals 35 to 60% of the monster hp as fire and as phys dmg
That's on average 95% of the hp pool if they have 0% fire res and dr
Basically, this means that without any -fire and -dr, a mob with 0 res would survive with 5% hp left.
We will keep using this % as a reference, because we need to achieve 100% or above to effectively kill the monsters around with the same amount of life as the corpse we are using.
It is very important to understand that we are not looking at how much bonus % dmg an extra 10% fire pen gives us, but simply at
what is needed to achieve the difference between 1-hit kill or 2-hit kill.
Let's look at a very common fire immune situation
30% dr and 95% fire res with sunder
30 - 100 = -70% dr
95 - 17 - 20 = 58% fire res
(47.5 * 1.7) + (47.5 * 0.42) = 100.7%
We reached the kill threshold with a single cast95 - 17 - 10 = 68% fire res
(47.5 * 1.7) + (47.5 * 0.32) = 95.95%
Sadly now everything survived, we need a 2nd CE to get the job done
It doesn't matter what is the % dmg differential
The difference is 1 CE vs 2 CE, which is directly translated as a 100% dmg increase
Yup
That little +5% dmg he tried to show us is indeed what's missing to get those 1-hit kill.
We're looking at the equivalent of an effective +100% dmg bonus in fact, since we kill each cast instead of each 2 cast.
Loosing half your effective dmg is not all
Like I said, you also lost :
40%ed on merc (slower to get the needed first corpse each new pack)
your summons are not fire immune anymore, you'll lose incredible amounts of time whenever they die, and loosing IG many times per day also means so much time lost to get all those insights
You're now casting 2x more CE (very mana hungry), and you lost half your mana sustain by dropping the much needed 20 ene + 33% regen + 5 maek on homunculus
I know it looks like a small detail.
But this small detail literally turns a build generally known as mediocre and noob friendly, into an S tier build very fast paced.
