It’s not just Trump with the views on border control with both Canada and Mexico. It’s a bi-partisan majority who view this as an issue regardless of what your news tells you. Which means if successful these methods will continue to be used until the US feels our neighbors/allies can match our energy in these matters.
This isn't the first time he's done this to Canada and it was completely fine. To the extent of most or all goods sure, but again I don't see this is a long term issue. I think its likely you taking in too much news since all the news consists of and what it consisted of during his last presidency was, tariffs, tariffs, tariffs. Just like the previous ones, they get lifted again most likely once the guys out of office.
