i can understand ukraine's appeal to join nato, but ukraine has been part of russia and its culture for a very long time. by trying to create a scenario where russia would have to war with the world to basically interact as it was with ukraine, they forced a war before that could happen

Russia started a war because control of Ukraine was existentially important to them, It's not existentially important to the West. The role of a leader is to shepherd his people into the best future that he can. Did Zelensky achieve this?
