This might shock you, but NHL franchises are allowed to sign players from other countries onto their rosters. Every team that has won the Cup has been flush with Canadian players, regardless of where the franchise is located.

The comparison of professional athletes to doctors is absurd, pro athletes play wherever they are drafted/traded/signed to, they don't have a choice of where to set up shop like a doctor or a lawyer. Absolutely braindead take lmao.

Doesn't shock me at all. I'm fully aware that US Teams INVEST IN THEIR PLAYERS. Which is why the US wins the Stanley Cup every year for the last 31 years.

Just like the US pays real money to doctors, hence why there are Canadian doctors in every state and major city in the US.

Professional athletes go where teams are willing to invest in them. Canadian teams are unwilling to invest top dollar in top talent, so they've spent the last 31 years straight not being the best.

Thus, Canada is not the best. Go back a few pages, and you'll see where I openly state that Canada USE to be the best at Ice Hockey. They no longer are, nor have they been since 1993.

It's a simple fact. The best Team in the NHL is the team that wins the Stanley Cup. They ARE the Champion team. EVERY Champion team in the last 31 years has been a US team. We'll see in April if Canada can break that streak. Somehow? I doubt it.

This isn't Major League Baseball. The NHL has a salary cap. You can't just buy a Cup like you can in that farce of a league.

Also I'd put my money on Winnipeg winning the Cup this year. Their best player? An American.

This isn't a sports discussion though is it? Just a political dick-waving contest. I'll leave you guys to it then, just wanted to toss my 2 cents into this cesspit.

edit: BTW here's the roster for the most recent Stanley Cup champs, the 2023-2024 Florida Panthers. Notice anything peculiar about it?

We don't need to spit out players. Due to the fact that we pay players real money, Canadian players would rather come to the US an play for us.

Besides, the number of Canadian-born players in the NHL is on the decline. For several years now. At the current rate, by 2050, Canada is unlikely to have any Canadian born players remaining in the NHL. Likewise, during the 1993 cup, 1/3rd of the teams in the NHL were Canadian teams. Now it's only 21.875%.

You're losing the sport altogether, friend. The trends are against you. So, AGAIN, Canada created the sport. Canada was ALWAYS the best at the sport. Until the 1993-1994 season. From that point onward, US Teams have reigned supreme, and show no sign of giving the "Best at Hockey" title back to Canada.

And for the umpteenth time, it's Canada, and it's teams, own fault, for failing to pay players what they're worth. :)

the 55% stat says otherwise. youre just too stubborn to admit it.
unlikely to have any Canadian players remaining in the nhl? haha, you really are insane.

go back to post #25 and re-read the first sentence. i only ever spoke of players nationality, not where the city they play for is located. youre just twisting words because youre a sore loser, or envious. whichever, i dont really care.

you lost last night when it mattered. haha. try harder next time.

in regards to the chart above, it wasnt just the Panthers, it was the Bolts and Knights too.

In the '70's, roughly 93% of all NHL players were Canadian.

By the '80's, it had dropped to 75%.

During the 1993-1994 season it was 65.3%.

And not to question your numbers, but the current percentage of players in the NHL who're Canadian-born is currently only 41.1%. https://soundofhockey.com/2024/12/26/data-dump-nationality-trends-across-the-nhl/

Again, you're losing teams, and you're spitting out fewer players.

You are losing the sport. I'm sorry that the reality of Canada's fall from Ice Hockey grace is so difficult for you to swallow.

On the bright side, it's not too late! Canada can start investing again, and stop conceding the sport to American Billionaires any time it wants. :)
