Geography cartographs are going to earn lots of money after all of the renaming and redrawing borders in recent times (US, middle east, Russia-Ukraine).
Give me a 30 million page document and a word processor, I can have every instance of "Gulf of Mexico" renamed to "Gulf of America" in under a minute.
This idea that names can't change, borders can't change, nothing can change because documents and maps are expensive and time consuming to produce is a very dark ages theory.
dont everlook the sense of entitlement americans are showing by expecting others to comply with the name change. you said it, we can call it whatever we want. why are americans so upset we arent calling it what you tell us too?
I don't care if Europe complies. Or even Mexico. As I said, the US government officially renamed it the Gulf of America. Therefore US companies like Google are required to comply, at least when it comes to what they serve Americans.
Now, if, say, Spain were to say, "NO! We named it 'Gulf of Mexico' Like 400+ years ago! We're staying with that name! GOOGLE! If you wish to continue doing business in Spain, then anyone who accesses Google Maps from Spain will see 'Gulf of Mexico'!" I'd say that'd be perfectly reasonable. And in fact, Google would probably capitulate, and it's unlikely the US Government could do anything about it.
There are certainly options for maintaining the "Gulf of Mexico" name in other nations. And as I said, feel free.
I don't know who you think is upset that non-Americans still wish to call it "Gulf of Mexico". What I've being seeing is people crying that in the US it's now called "Gulf of America".
