Those look like perfectly decent phones. You do realize that companies have hard phones, right? So does the US Government?

You realize phone hardlines still exist?

Make fun of the man over whatever you want. But perhaps you should go shopping for modern hardline business phones (which often also interface with the internet/computers) and see what they cost.

No doubt his top draw is filled with a variety of cell phones ranging from gay looking flipphones that can survive being run over by a tank all the way to the latest and greatest Iphone. He's a President.

Sure. And there are several other forms of hardline phones used in the government.

Putin's such a weird subject for mockery. He's a Statesman who has been serving for longer than many in PaRD have been alive.

He has overseen the divestment of Oligarchs, the implementation of workers rights and benefits, and the emphasis on repairing all the logistics that the USSR broke.

He's done a great job, for Russia, and the Russian people support him. Thanks to his unwillingness to bend to woke expediency, he has also now landed in a point where even the private market of Russia needs in-home tech production and increased oil/natural gas refinement.

At no point since the fall of the USSR has Russia been a truly independent nation when it comes to tech and logistics. Now they are getting there with tech, and they're there with logistics.

Russia is stronger today than before they were stonewalled on trade. And their military machine is fully ramped up, to the point that their war machine can out-produce the entire west combined.

Heady shit. Got to admire it, even while being concerned where it may lead.

Clueless

Landline phones still work when the power goes out and the only option from a security standpoint.

Haha, putin is losing.

This is not necessarily correct.

Phone lines are powered. If you hit enough nodes in the exchange, you can knock landlines out in their entirety.

Sorry, just figured I'd point that out. In general you're correct, and it's far more difficult to knock out landlines than it is a city's power. But.

Ordinary landlines are powered by the phone company that exploits them but you can safely bet that the Kremlin or the Pentagon aren't dependent on that

I mean, I never underestimate the government's ability to overlook something incredibly simple that will cause a complete failure over the most minor event.

So yeah, what you say is mostly correct, but it does give an overabundance of credit. :P

Well they say that even the strongest / deepest bunkers can be busted with modern pin point accuracy bunker busters so technically those secure landlines can be targeted too but it'll require an effort and the question remains if they were smart enough to install one or more backup lines.

Who says that? Or wait, maybe, what do you mean by "bunker"?

If you're talking about the mountains the US Government uses as "bunkers" that's not true. You can knock out the ability for the people inside the bunker to get out with modern bunker busters. But the bunker isn't going to be impacted.

In fact, afaik, most of our government official and military brass bunkers go, they're too far down for even something like a MOAB to have any impact.

What kind of bunker are you talking about? Like machinegun nests from Normandy, or...?

They're talking about pin point accurate nuclear penetrators (bunker buster)

E: Even a well fortified bunker inside a mountain is no longer considered safe

Right, I got that. The problem is when you're dealing with a bunker that's hundreds or thousands of feet below ground, covered in stone and metal and dirt, the nuclear penetrators do not penetrate far enough. They can restrict exit. Those being protected by the bunker will be unable to leave and have to be dug out. But they won't be harmed. No weapon we have today can penetrate into that grade bunker.

Which is why I'm asking, not regarding the buster, but the bunker itself, exactly what kind of bunker are we talking about?
