having an ip is not enough to compromise a computer. it will compromise privacy in you will know who the guy is. you will still need to port scan the computer, see what services are running and get a better understanding of the machine behind the address and try and find services that are running that have known or unpatched issues or default passwords or misconfigurations. a lot of the time people access a remote computer by manipulating the user as the weakest link.
