Except you're also free to express criticism or ignore someone under the right of freedom of expression. So cancel culture is allowed constitutionally if you really think about it. If enough people collectively use their freedom of expression to "cancel" someone who are we to deny them that? The only way it remains is if the collective keeps that energy.

This is why I don't really like the conservative notion of "cancel culture" as a whole because it is attempting to frame something universal and historically human as something only political. I'm sure even when we were cavemen we had a form of cancel culture for the weirdo that was eating human remains. Only the context has drastically changed.

That's not how rights work.
If enough people were to agree Islam should be outlawed, and being a muslim should be a crime, that would be 100% right, fair, and just to you because its a 'democracy'?

Is it? Do you get banned for left wing stuff? I don't think so.

An echo chamber doesn't need to enforce rules to be one. When enough people share the same political leanings they re-affirm each others beliefs until the people who disagree find themselves either dissuaded from arguing or just unwelcome. This doesn't have to be intentional. But look at how many comments you can view in this board that use terms like "left" "liberal" etc as pejoratives. That naturally is going to drive away some people who feel themselves described as that.

Just an example for any conservative to resonate with:
If you've ever been a conservative minded person in a room full of pretentious liberals I'm sure you have felt this way. It's only natural. Even if you have strong willpower and conviction to your beliefs.

I'm not making a moral justification for it, I do agree with you. Mob rule can be a dangerous and regressive thing.

But what I am saying is it's hard to classify a collective of people deciding they don't want to deal with someone versus actively taking away someone's rights. When the reality is something different. If someone says something offensive and a group of people decide not to want to deal with that person: I can understand that.

Rights themselves are an odd and cryptic thing, but for the most part exist because of governance and law. If the government isn't the only "cancelling" someone: I think the freedom of expression in this case is still something people are exercising. Even if I do not agree with the end goal.

What you are advocating for is not even a collective majority, it is in a minority controlling who has a voice and who does not.

Sort of. Cancel culture will only remain a thing if enough people are apathetic towards it. So yeah, it's a minority of people who "cancel" someone in some cases. But there's enough people who either do not care enough to do anything about it, or simply agree with the person being cancelled for it to happen.

EDIT: btw I do not like cancel culture or support it. I believe in second chances. Some of those most hateful people can become the most loving people upon self reflection.

When no overlord decides which side they prefer, the left wimps out and jumps ship.

Okay but before social media cancel culture wasn't called cancel culture but it's always existed even if it had other names or no name at all. It's like "memes". There were memes before the term meme was even widely understood.

we wernt talking about any of that the topic was about this place being a echo chamber and i was explaining why its mostly 'right

"cancel culture" is only expressed in relation about what has happened to social media. and yes its a tool exclusively used by fraud lefties.
