The NFL announced the winners for its individual awards last night at the annual NFL Honors event. Here's a quick recap:

MVP - Josh Allen / QB / Bills
CotY - Kevin O'Connell / HC / Vikings
ORoY - Jayden Daniels / QB / Redskins
DRoY - Jared Verse / Edge / Rams
CPotY - Joe Burrow / QB / Bungles
OPoY - Saquon Barkley / RB / Eagles
DPoY - Pat Surtain II / CB / Broncos
ACotY - Ben Johnson / OC / Lions

They also announced their annual inductees to the HoF, which I'll include here as well:

Eric Allen / CB / Eagles, Saints, Raiders / '88-'01
Jared Allen / DE / Chiefs, Vikes, Bears, Panthers / '04-'15
Antonio Gates / TE / Chargers / '03-'18
Sterling Sharpe / WR / Packers / '88-'94

An absolute joke that Gates didn't get in last year on his first ballot, but at least they got it right this time around. Also interesting to see Sterling Sharpe finally get inducted. Worth noting as well that Eli Manning failed to make the cut in his first year of eligibility. I assume he'll make it eventually, but he'll probably have to wait a few more years at least.

edit: forgot to include Daniels lol, though that was probably the most obvious of all the winners last night

Guy who won mvp had 1k fewer yards, fewer touchdowns, more turnovers, and lost the head to head

Guy who won COTY went 0-2 against another COTY candidate and lost in the first round of the playoffs

Comeback player of the year missed the playoffs

Am I getting all of this correct?

Mvp = most valuable player. Josh Allen has more value to his team than Lamar Jackson adds to his team. Bills weren’t even expected to win their own division.

I don’t agree with coach of the year but the Vikings were not expected to win as many games with Darnold at QB coming out of a backup role.

Imo Darnold should have won the Comeback Player.

Last time I checked, scoring more, moving the offense more, and turning the ball over less adds more value to the team then…you know, not doing any of those three things. This MVP was obviously based on voter fatigue, but it was a little too obvious. I mean Lamar received a 4th place vote 🤣

I won’t necessarily disagree with the COTY choice, I’m pretty impartial there

Darnold was far and away the comeback player of the year even with his implosion the last two games of the season. There’s no reason he shouldn’t have won that award.

That may be true but I think there is more to the equation of MVP than pure stats. Allen had less to work with. The Ravens having Derrick Henry in the backfield left the scrambles outside the numbers open for Lamar and opened up his pass game alot more. Going into the season, Allen’s #1 target was his tight end Dalton Kincaid who ended the season 44 catches on 75 targets for 448 yards and 2 TDs (missed 4 games). That being said I think Allen was a more valuable piece to his offense than Lamar despite what the numbers say.

The ravens and the bills both had running backs that rushed for 16 tds. Henry is obviously a better player but I think that’s a pretty weak argument when the guy on Allen’s team was tied for the league lead. The bills drafted a receiver in the second round. The ravens didn’t add anybody to the core. Both of these teams had shitty receiving cores and Lamar just flat out had far superior numbers. Didn’t help his receivers were rubbing sun tan oil on their gloves before every game.

This is not a Chiefs-Homer related take, but what the fuck does Andy Reid have to do as the head coach of the Chiefs to win a coach of the year award? He's never won it as a Chief, and only ever won it once I think early on with the Eagles.
