Occasionally there is a decent enough movie that pops up every few months nothing to rave about however. Feels like the rest it's just Hollywood slop being dished out

The woke agenda probably losing money and frustrated the audience with their activism. Now Hollywood is hesitant to release another flop so we are left with some random b grade movies ... guess I'll just stick with YouTube instead.

Largely feels the same good-to-bad ratio as in the past, to me. This is all subjective, of course.
If you go back x amount of years, pretty sure the feeling was the same then. The years have a way of filtering out garbage, which down the road gives the impression that the past was superior to the present.

Outside factors, such as the covid lockdown, the writer's strike, cultural agendas, etc. definitely impacted the overall output, but I think the percentage of garbage to sift through is still about the same.

Not even remotely close in a good year you could see 1-2 masterpiece movies about 3 great ones and 5 or so good ones. These days you would be lucky to get 1-2 good films in entire year.

For decades I have watched TV programs, Movies and anime. Not reality TV shows, I have my own Reality Show.

Anyway, over the decades the plot or story line are the same, there are a few that baffle me when I first watch them.

Game of Thrones is a classic example in the first season, the protagonist (viewers think) gets his head cut off... dramatic and anyone watching remembers it... a classic now. (King Jofry poisoning was to easy to read, however the culprit wasn't).

There is a Bruce Willis movie where he is helping a young boy to cope with seeing dead people (forgot name of the movie) and trying to protect him, however, he did not realize that he was dead and appearing and talking to the boy (Bruce was a Psychologist ... think Child Therapist). Now I did not see that coming in that movie until the end.

Now... since I have aged, watched a lot of junk / good programs, movies and anime, my senses are dulled to new programs / movies & anime.

I can not talk about what others think/want to entertain them, however I believe we have become complacent as we have gotten older and watch too much.

Once you taste food made by a chef that knows what he is doing it's hard to go back to prison slop. It becomes night and day when you watch a great movie as opposed to mediocrity. There are people who have a very low bar and never tasted exceptional movies. I wouldn't call it complacent I would call it poor taste buds or pure ignorance. I either have to dig up an old classic or rewatch something rather than forcing myself watching unimaginative woke shit they spit out these days.

Your food concept is in poor taste, considering I have eaten the supposedly great food made by a great chef and found it not to my taste, in reality I thought it tasted like $hit and would have enjoyed simple Fish-N-Chips from a takeaway. Here is an example: Roast Pork with Apple Sauce or Honey Marinated Roast Pork... both of those taste like $hit to me, I want the REAL Pork flavor, no fancy trimmings, and that is the same with Movies, shows and anime... cut the trimmings and get to the raw flavor.

No you are giving comparison in poor taste. If you are going with fish and chips compare it with fish and chips don't compare it with roast pork. That's like saying I didn't like this sci-fi movie so I watched a comedy instead. What I am trying to get across is there is a fish n chips made from freshly caught snapper professionally made with the finest ingredients served in an appetizing manner. That's what the movie industry used to serve us. These days it's serving us 2 day old fish in cheapest batter, greasy oil, too much salt with cold skinny fries and no napkin. It's barely food at this point.
