Then why is Trump rambling on about fentanyl of that's not the issue? What type of non-existing threat to Canada are you referring to where the US would need to intervene? Our countries already help each other out when there are natural disasters, but it's not like an invasion is expected. Judging by the numbers our borders seem to be more secure than yours as a whole.

The world order is changing. A false sense of security will lead to disappointment later.

Fentanyl is a problem. It’s coming across our borders killing our people. (Although imo Canada does a much better job of this than Mexico). Naturally the US expects our neighbors to pull weight the same way when Russia breaks Alaska or Canadian air space the US AND CANADA both scramble jets.

I get the sense of “pride” but it’s still an issue. Admittedly by all 3 governments. The US has busted several thousand shipments of this crap at BOTH borders. It’s well accepted. Regardless of political views it’s an issue. Anyone who doesn’t think it’s an issue is essentially spitting on graves.

Two threats that both happened last year Russia breaking into air space. Chinese spy balloon breaking into air space. BOTH in the US and Canada. Now, we can say it’s not a threat I guess. But that’s opinion. Both militaries considered it a threat enough to react.

Personally, I’m proud of these three leaders coming together to act fast so people don’t suffer. (More proud of Canada and Mexico as for Trump this was more of a tantrum to get his view heard). The ends justify the means.

it was chest puffing. the mexican deal was real and needed, even if we didnt require tariff threats to make it happen, thats the route he took. but as compared to mexico the canadian govt isnt owned by cartels, even if people think they have corruption issues.

There is some degree of corruption in any government and Trump isn't exempt from it. I just find it odd to lump Canada and Mexico together when the amount of fentanyl seized coming from Canada could fit in a backpack. Not sure the whole tariff ordeal went the way he expected it to go, abroad and at home.

The reason they are lumped together is because we need all 3 to make it work. Not because Canada is as big of a problem as Mexico. No one would ever accuse them of that. The US and Canadian border patrols work very well together. The US and Mexican border patrols have many stand offs.

The Canadian border just needs more men. Honestly I think both countries need to increase personnel by 1/3rd there to prevent exhaustion at least.

No the issue is our allies in both border control and NATO not pulling their weight and being a burden to the US. That’s the issue. If Canada EVER has a conflict or issue the US will be the First Nation they rely on.

Mark my words. After the border is more secure Trump is going after NATO hard this term too.

Canada won't have an issue. American allyship is a burden on us, you guys are the ones constantly fucking over the planet and dragging all of your allies into bullshit conflicts

I’m hoping Trump puts a stop to that. No Ukrainian aid or Israel aid would be a good start thankfully.

If you want to talk about spitting on graves, take a look at your health care system that by design destroys lives and causes mental health issues like addiction

You do realize many Canadians come here for serious treatment right?

Agree to disagree. 1500 extra people at the border won't change anything. Maybe you need more men if you're afraid the border isn't secure enough.

Unfortunately our most visible provinces have elected wannabe Trumps who are fucking our healthcare up right now, too

But those two facts are not mutually exclusive.

Dealing with the opioid crisis isn't a border issue it's a health care issue (and a community issue etc)
