TSMC produces both their chips. They aren't competitors in any real term. They're both just resellers of TSMC's products.

You could claim, "Well, they keeep R&D in house!" but it doesn't really matter, does it? TSMC is producing both company's products, as well as Apple's. Meaning they have ALL the IP of all three companies. Meaning those companies could cease to exist, and the flow of product from TSMC would be unimpacted.

Again, Intel is the only real competitor in town. :)

You can build a performance engine, but you'll need proper software engineers to tune it and the logistical capability to prepare and bring it to market. This is what Nvidia/Apple do.

I'm still plenty old enough to remember when ATI and Nvidia drivers and software didn't work for shit, and it was all user-built drivers, and performance was FAR superior to the bloatware either company hands out today.

Apple is little more than an OS designer when it comes to their US offices. The other software development takes place primarily in foreign countries that are adversarial to the US. Apple is not our friend. They have used billions in government contracts over the last 30 years to outsource 100% of their hardware production and near 100% of non-OS software development to those who bear us no friendship. All while continually hiking their prices for no reason whatsoever. Draining the wealth of Americans to reinvest into 3rd world nations.

I don't disagree with any of this, just saying, TSMC has no means by which to replace the big players. Its not like they're giving away those fancy nodes for free. TSMC/Nvidia/Apple benefit each other.

They don't need to "replace" the "big players". They already have access to every bit of the hardware IP. They can continue producing the hardware and research their own hardware improvements and simply contract others to develop drivers, drivers that will doubtlessly be better than anything AMD, Nvidia, or Apple is currently putting out.

Again, there's already talk of going after TSMC for monopolistic practices. And the ONLY reason it hasn't already been done? Intel still exists.

I can assure you that the reason TSMC hasn't began making its own consumer hardware is NOT because Intel exists. And I actually like Intel, or at least their products.

Excuse me? When did I indicate TSMC was or wasn't making their own consumer hardware? I said the only reason TSMC has not been targeted for ANTI-TRUST is because Intel still exists. Without Intel, TSMC is a monopoly.

Remove Intel, and TSMC is the producer of over 95% of GPUS and microchips used in the US. I don't know if you failed to read or just didn't comprehend, but you absolutely did not respond to what I said.

You're talking in circles

Here's your midwit fantasy scenario

They can continue producing the hardware and research their own hardware improvements and simply contract others to develop drivers

This will never happen. TSMC will never operate/openly sell on the consumer/prosumer market.

This is my last reply on this as the thread has been Reddit-tized and derailed and I feel the ick for contributing it. Take care.
