No they are being set by current AVAILABLE supply. Projected loss plays very little party in the chicken industry because it takes them less than 6 months to get a new batch of mutants going. That’s why the last egg issue didn’t even last a year.

I’m not sure if you have ever worked at one of these places but don’t be mistaken these “chickens” are basically chemically enhanced mutants. They grow faster. Get bigger. And are less healthy for you.

There will be some delay, but yes, when egg producers and retailers negotiate prices, the projected supply for the timeframe of the contract will of course play a major role. If that supply goes down, say because the bird flu has decimated the egg laying plants, prices will obviously go up. How could they not? If anything, you have given an argument that prices should lag changes in the supply by even more.
