Wow. Are we back?

Lived in Chicago my entire life as a Minnesota Vikings fan surrounded by all Bears fans.

I don't know why the Bears have made getting a head coach this "big deal" and then sacrificing so much for QB's who never pan out.

Even if Lubby Smith was still coaching the Bears their record would be the same. If the Bears drafted Mahomes they would not have won a Superbowl.

The Bears got all these pro bowl studs for Calebs rookie year but didn't give him guards and the whole season went bust.

I watched one game of Caleb's at USC and he looked like shit and I go wow this is "the guy" the Bears put all their hope in? Good luck.

The Bears being my 2nd favorite team obviously I'd have rather the organization stayed a top "elite defense" because for whatever reason QB's always go bust for them.

Head coach makes no difference in Chicago. Should've kept the "Monsters of the Midway" mentality instead of can QB Jesus save us with a head coach who was the offensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions(of course he looked great he had amon ra/goff/gibbs/montgomery/etc.

The only game of Caleb's I watched I bet on him because of all the hype my fam/friends were saying and he threw like 10-24 150 yards against some no name college and I lost my bet.

Trust the one game I did watch he looked like total ass and his start in the NFL looks like shit too to anyone who doesn't sugar coat how he played this year.

Despite almost breaking the record for most sacks taken in a season…

64% completion
20 td
6 int
3541 passing yards
489 rushing yards

That is not a bad stat line for a rookie QB on a team that went 5-12 in a division that had 3 10+ win teams.
Commanders, Rams, Texans, Packers 2x, Lions 2x, Vikings 2x. That’s 9 games they played vs playoff teams.

I’m not saying Caleb is great but his season was much brighter than you make is sound.

I just don't think the Bears "found their guy" and I don't think hiring the offensive coordinator of the best offensive scoring team in the league is going to magically change reality. Johnson is now dealing with Caleb Williams vs Goff. Odunze compared to Amon Ra. Swift compared to Gibbs/Montgomery. List goes on.

I'm not saying Caleb won't get better but they need a lot more around him and it was the same with Justin Fields(who broke rushing yards records btw because he was always getting pressured). Now you shared Caleb's stats and all it does it remind me of Justin Fields because Caleb is now "throwing his way" out of pressures whereas Justin Fields was "running his way" out of pressures.

Is the QB the problem or the line?

I actually liked Justin Fields and thought he got a little better imo.

Was the smart thing to do for the Bears to draft Caleb Williams. Of course. Will it pan out? Probably not.

Fields might be a top 45 qb in the league. Caleb has a chance to be top 10 with good playcalling and coaching. Their playcalling and inconsistencies at OC made it difficult for him to succeed

Eventually something has to give with their QB problems over the years. I’d say they are close to the Browns in never having a QB but they have stuck with some QBs for a handful of years. Just none of them were elite or mvp-type QBs. I think if they get a solid lineman or two and keep what they have, they have a chance to turn the ship around quite fast. They have the talent on the offensive side of the ball but Keenan Allen will be out of the league soon I imagine (32 yrs old).

Fields top 32 because he could start on a bad team and he started for the Steelers and he won those games while Russel Wilson was out. One could say the Steelers don't even make the playoffs if Justin Fields doesn't get those 3 wins.

Caleb Williams played ok with a lot of targets around him(moore/swift/odunze/allen/kmet) and a good defense.

The Bears defense often put Caleb in good field position and the Bears would do nothing(some of that falls on Caleb). If they think hiring the Lions OC is going to plug that hole good luck.

They need 2 elite guards so we can see him stand in the pocket and throw not scramble and throw.
