Good evening guys,

I’m a complete novice and don’t know much about computers. I’m sure I can tell you what model/make I have, not sure if it helps in this specific issue.

My laptop is fairly old (12 yrs I would say) but I haven’t had any issues with it at all (prior to this). Running windows 10…was just working fine on Wednesday and then I closed my laptop as usual.

I believe my system stays on standby when the laptop is closed, all that happens when I open it, is enter my password and go on. I’m sure the updates happen automatically when it is closed.

So Thursday, I noticed it working while it was closed, fans were whirring (making that sound)…today when I opened it , I saw it was updating windows…got to 98 and the balls spinning. I left it open, went to work at 7 am, came back at 1 pm, still 98% and balls spinning.

Since then, I hard restarted, went into the advanced settings…tried redoing the update 2-3 times and would just get to 94-98% but now the balls would get stuck (no spinning, frozen screen) about 1 minute in.

When I go to cancel the update, I have 2 options- quality or features- it doesn’t let me revert either of them. One says it can’t be done, other says some other function is happening so it cannot revert.

I don’t want to reset the pc- does anyone have any suggestions on what I should try before I reset?

Laptop is currently shut down…letting it rest (lol)

I pretty much called it with that laptop. I had a brand new one in a box, waiting to be opened for pretty much 2 years now….so happy I opened it- it all worked out for the best
