I think the sad truth is that Greenland is a depressing shithole with rampant poverty and alcoholism as well as sky-high suicide rates; so chances are that if you invite a random selection of folks from the streets of Greenland, a lot of them will look like hobos.

I read this and while understand an outsiders view, its amazing how once one moves to said "shithole" and live theres for 10 years how much you view everywhere else as shitholes. For instance, I cant go to a city, suburbia, or fuck anywhere that has 3 story buildings outside some little mountain towns and not think what a fucking shit hole everywhere is. Disgusting vanity driven dystopian depressing dumps.

And greenland is leaps and bounds more developed than where I hail from.

Greenland, Labrador, Nunavik, Nunavut, NWT, Yukon, Alaska. Top places on earth to live imo, but yes most suffer terribly from poverty and the negatives that come with such poverty.

lmao

Who doesn't buy that there's random homeless people in a sub-arctic town of 20k waiting aimlessly outside in dead of winter

Uhhh, what. Yellowknife and Whitehorse have rampant homeless problems. I have lived there and they are out year-round in negative 30-50C.

So does Iqaluit and I am sure Nuuk is no different.

You could walk down Franklin or 51st ave in Yellowknife anytime of the year and have a plattons worth of homeless people.

I don't care if the story is true or not in Greenland, but you have no idea what you are talking about if you think there's not homeless people everywhere just because its sub-arctic. I have lived in the Arctic and sub-arctic the majority of my life now.

I, personally, wouldn't really call places where it's dark for 5 months and cold for 9 months of the year a "top place to live". The experience of living far away from big cities or too many people, in the wilderness, with only contact to a few other people who you all know in your local, tiny, close-knit community... this experience can be had in many other places which don't have as many drawbacks. Towns in the Rocky Mountains, or the Mat-Su valley in Alaska, etc. I genuinely don't see what places like Nuuk or Yellowknife have over those.

You view it as a drawback. I love ski-dooing and hunting. I wish we had snow 12 months of the year. Land and sea is much easier to traverse via skidoo than honda or boat.

I also legitimately feel the lower mainland is colder. We have no moisture. People don't get it until they actually come and live.

Take a trip to Pangnirtung or Baker Lake or Qikiqtarjuaq or Kugaaruk, if you have the funds.

I have the fortune of having the funds to live anywhere essentially and I still pick the Arctic over everything else. Ill go skiing a few weeks a year on the mountain towns like I am set to in two weeks and stay on the mountains for a few weeks but that's good enough.

Average temperate in Nuuk is 19 Fahrenheit in January, which swings way lower during the nighttime. So are these people white walkers or what? How many nights do these 'homeless' people survive without sleeping in a home with over/under 1 night?

Are you that daft dude? You think people just sit in the shelters all day long. No they will go in at night if they can and come outside in the daytime. Did he go to dinner at 11pm at night when people go into their shelters?

This is not something you have a clue about and that's a warm ass temperature.

Sometimes people who have never left a city in their life blow my mind.

Right now its -51F outside my window and I 100% guarantee there's homeless people doing laps around town right now until they head to the mens shelter and womens shelter at night.

They are butt picking, going commercial building to commercial building picking cig butts.

19F is a joke. that's -7C lmao. We sleep in tents at -50C here, there's homeless people all over the streets of Edmonton at -20C all the time. Same with Winnipeg. Its to the point where I don't even stay at the downtown hotels anymore in those cities when I travel through and just stay at the airport hotels because there's so many homeless people everywhere all times of the year and its depressing to walk around.

You're right, we should believe totally not biased media that didn't spend a decade dick riding everything Trump did on account from a guy named Jørgen Bay-Kastrup (totally not a Dane but an ethnic Greenlandian) that he collected some random druggies and homeless off the street that conveniently where all around to feed.

Good thing you have expertise on the cold, if only it translated to some deductive reasoning to figure out why the Guardian would be pushing this nonsense, which even if true is completely retarded to be printed by a reputable 'news' outlet and be displayed on their front page.

Again, I don't care about the story. I am taking issues with you who clearly has no idea about any northern towns.

Hope that's fairly clear.

Its when people talk with such authority about something they have no knowledge of. We have moved in that direction terribly, everyone does it with such conviction.

Not believing an article , sure. Blabbing about how hur dur how could anyone believe there's homeless around in the cold when we suffer so badly from homeless problems up here, that's another.
