It should also be mentioned that this year's event is the Maha Kumbh, the really big one which only occurs once every 144 years. This also explains why so many more participants are expected this year (250-400m) compared with last time (around 34m in 2013). Pretty much any faithful Hindu who has the health and the means will want to catch this one because it's literally a once-in-a-lifetime occasion.


Damn. I was reading up on it and was wondering about some of these things but none of the sources I was looking at referenced the 144 year occurance. Were gonna get some crazy video in the next couple weeks.

Gatta love christains and thier undeniable love and acceptance. Must be all the jealousy. The only time we see them gather in numbers is when the cubs win and even that ends in violence.

How'd a topic about a Hindu gathering, or rather, THE Hindu gathering of this lifetime, become about your hatred for Christians? Christians organize into communities, and are separated into so many denominations and differences of belief that expecting them to act as a monolith is simply stupidity. If you wish to see a large Christian Gathering, go to Vatican City. And blaming sports fan brawling on any religion is flat out stupid.

Hostility between Hindus and Muslims, in India, is well-documented though. Once again, hope they're well prepared to defend the gathering from Trucks of Peace. :)

The threat of angry racist pieces of garbage attacking the event is indeed in the moon, which is evident by people who can only talk about it via trolling or threatening terror attacks. Typical behavior from some people.
