Hey there, first time in this part of the forums, ive been playing d2 from 2000 to 2005 on PC and now d2r on ps5 since 2021.

I was very curious about one thing.. sometimes i meet someone from the early times of d2 here, we chat about the old days and theres one thing i have in mind that feels like i made it up somehow, cause noone seems to remember it..

Before runewords were implemented, there was a time when the currency in closed battle.net was soj. So Item values were measured by soj equivalent. I think i know buying an Eaglehorn bow (which was the second best bow in the game at that time) for 20 sojs back then. Maybe it was just in europe realm??

Now everytime i tell people about that, they dont remember.....

Does anyone remember those times or did i dream it all?

And if it did happen, my question is: did those sojs become dupes or how was it possible to have gold replaced with soj.. it must have been thousands of those rings around those days..

Thanks for ur answers.

I think any legit d2 Og player would remember those days. It was during LOD.

A dupe method got leaked and people started duping the hell out of sojs. It was duped so much that it became the currency at the time. It was before d2jsp forum gold was used.

Funny because i did find an Eaglehorn bow from hell meph and sold it for a lot of sojs. Collected 40x sojs and traded it all for a Blackoak shield for my cold immune sorc lol.

I also remember being scammed with that system once, cause Eaglehorn just had the same Look as a normal bow...

You were so busy putting in the Sojs in the trade Window.. i bought a normal White large Battle bow for 15 soj or Something, cause the other Guy shown me Eaglehorn First and while i was Putting the soj in the Slots he changed the bow to a normal, white one with the same appearance..

The scammer left the Game instantly..

made a few of the best and worst early gaming experiences in that time..

After falling for that guy i didnt Play for weeks

Edit: I Wish Blizzard would have implemented those Chat rooms in d2r with your character lined up on the bottom of the Screen, Trading with people in live Chat. Those were good times.. with that Chat gem in the middle

Isn’t the reason they created annihilus charm was to get rid of all the duped sojs that existed? Their genius plan was to sell them to vendors or am I making this up..

Thanks for all your answers.. that was a good time Back then. Everything was New, Blizzard was developing the Game, implementing new stuff all the way. Then LoD was released and me and all my friends were crazy about playing d2 lod. I think Patch 1.10 was the one that brought runes and runewords, before it was just pure mf Farming for items.

I remember having a lightning sorc with a 4 sock Armor and a 3 sock helmet filled with perfect topazes and i did Like 1000 consecutive pindle runs, after finding out about it as a good Farming spot to find a shako, then occulus and so on..

Almost didnt finish school cause auf d2 and Halflife, especially counter strike.. lol

Anyways thanks and have a nice Weekend everyone

Those were good times indeed

I miss the d2 classic days where it was all about rare items and every character looked a little different
