My point was, NC response was slow and worse from at least federal response.

You know, big daddy government the socialist rats kneel and beg to.

Yet Commiefornia gets immediate federal response.

hmmmm

Again California contributes vastly more go the federal gov't so it gets better service.

You're such a socialist it appears.

these same narratives come up in hurricanes as well. and i always thought the same for years, "anyone there is an idiot, just get out". then my parents got caught in one. storms or fires change course, intensify or decrease in strength, etc. may parents weren't supposed to be in the path then by the time it changed course they couldnt even get enough gas in their car to get to safety so they hunkered down and were ok thank goodness. same goes for this fire, some people are either unable to get out physically or weren't in danger unless it was too late.

hurricanes are very very different from fires. people generally have fairly advanced notice, know the general trajectory and impact coastal regions worse than they do more inland locations
fires on the other hand come out of nowhere , there is usually very little notice if any and they are far more terrifying to deal with. during the Thomas fire in my county in 2020, we had no cell service, no power and many elderly people had no notice to evacuate because it happened in the middle of the night

This is a good perspective and answered one of my questions posed previously.

Suppose it was kind of apples to oranges to compare hurricanes and fires.

totally different, the rebuilding process after fires fucking sucks. my boss lives in malibu canyon and after the Woolsey fire in 2018 - he didnt have power for almost TWO YEARS!
he had to run his house (which luckily didnt burn down, all of his neighbors lost their houses) off of gas generators for 20 months until Edison put the power lines back up
his neighbor who Ive known for almost two decades JUST finished construction on their house last year - 6 years later

Changes in hurricane trajectory happen all of the time, and the difference of 10 miles could be heavy rain vs total destruction. in the hurricane i referenced my parents were supposed to just get a lot of rain and heavy winds, instead the eye of the storm passed directly over them and they saw total destruction of many things even 10 miles in from the coast.

i agree tho i'd obviously rather be in a hurricane situation than a fire situation, i just compared how in both cases people who are victims are often blamed when they may in fact not be totally at fault.

In Flordia builds are being made of concrete and steel. (I didn't say all buildings, inb4)
Because it knows hurricanes are going to hit every year.

Should fire prone areas rebuild with lumber?

The cost of lumber has increased in part due to green scam regulations.

should they be? yes. will they be? of course not.

the fire prone areas should be made less fire prone. maybe there's a chance that happens. more management, larger water reserves, perhaps some ditches to prevent spread, etc. only time will tell what happens.

L.A. is also an earthquake hotspot. Wood is more flexible than bricks for quakes. You can't prevent quakes but you can prevent fire.
