GGG has also demonstrated already in the first few days of EA that they are far more responsive to player feedback than blizzard ever will be (company size probably has a lot to do with this).

I would say PoE2 is at least as fun already in EA as D4 is now (several seasons into release). Based on my 20k hours in poe1, I would very much imagine PoE will be enjoyable for far longer each season than d4 even by just the first league.

All that said, I'm still going to play both :)


Just think about when full PoE 2 will drop. :)

D4 is more fun to get with a group of friends and blast for a few days and feel good about getting stronger fast etc...

POE2... crafting feels good, bossing on melee feels super bad early on. Not fun to play in a party since spells cover up monster effects sometimes.

Story... not even close D4 > whatever the lore is in poe2

Both will get better with time, some seasons will suck and get boring very fast.

Rinse & repeat on every ARPG

The expansion story was ass. And this is coming from someone who has really enjoyed d4.

Except:

Diablo 3 promised a nice PvP arena - almost moba style - I remember the hype video of it. Fans even made that arena as a Warcraft 3 map, visually loyal what we have seen in the video - I remember we played that before Diablo 3 release.
And the arena itself was in the game, becaue they released Echoing Nightmare as a new content and it takes place in that area.

PoE 1 had a small but active PvP playerbase for a while with GGGs direct support / correspondance.
Sadly I think the sheer amount of almost endless possible builds in PoE (1 and 2) makes balancing PvP near-impossible <_<
