I don't think it will hit that point ever if at all. It's an assumption that is based on a flawed understanding of reality.

People said the same about the textile mills and computers in general. Jobs can be lost, but work is always needed. For example we've transitioned to a largely service-based economy because of that. Specific work comes and goes, but work never ends.

I can go with the fact it may never reach that point but to me it is a inevitably even if outside my life time
How about this, what unemployment rate would you need to see to consider a UBI a necessity?

Who are the people who want basic income?

Sounds like they should start filling out a resume.
And then when they get a job, continue filling out resumes for better work.

Flipping burgers or working at a gift shop are not a career.
They're entry level jobs meant for highschoolers.

Gaining work experience that can then be applied to future employment.

And stop living above your means.
You can't expect a house, car and chicken in your pot.

You have to work for those things.

This AI stuff is just another excuse.

Those against UBI will be sad when they see their grand children living in a 1 room apartment with no purpose or life of their own.

in any case UBI currently isn't "needed" in terms of payments. but if we dont start to build a base for eventual UBI payments or something far worse is coming, full blown socialism.

the collapse is eventual, without UBI we wont survive it. and the U doesnt meant "universal for all", it should mean its a universal protection for people when/if they need it.

call me crazy all you want but we're already starting to see widespread cases of worker strikes due to automation, and it hasnt even hit the nasty parts of the job market yet. once we get autocabs and truck drivers are replaced we're going to see some particularly nasty stuff.

unions need to be more focused on anti automation contracts and the legislature needs to levy taxes on automation and AI where it displaces labor to slow the growth and build a base similar to social security once the payments are needed.

you are such a communist it's not even funny anymore that you pretend not to be.
e- personal attack, flaming, give me my suspension and continue to allow liars to spread propaganda.

Let's play this game.
Let's have a country that is 36 trillion in dept, give money to it's citizens.
Let's make tax payers give part of their income to other tax & non-tax payers.
Let's discourage citizens from working, in favor of low income housing and a check in the mail.
Let's encourage people from other countries to come to America for free money.
Let's stack ubi on top of social security.
Let's give money to irresponsible people just because they exist.
Let's tack on political agendas and employees to absorb some of the money meant for ubi.
Let's establish a government funded poverty class, on top of the failing welfare system.
Let's discourage marriage so they can collect two ubi checks.
Let's increase the cost of all goods and services because the baseline is now risen.

OH yes, Thank you brilliant overlords, this game sounds so fun!
The future of living in a pod and eating bugs sounds amazing!

When unemployment reaches 20% is AI just another excuse?
How about when it reaches 50%?
Ai and robotics are a real thing. It will make up more and more of the work forces while also advancements in automation are made needed less humans involved in the process. Yea some jobs open up,but 10 jobs opening up for programming and robots to replace 1000 jobs in manufacturing.

I flamed you, and am waiting for my suspension.
In the meantime I wanted to edit my post with some Cons, portrayed as positives.

I edited nothing out of my post. If you don't like the edit feature, maybe forums aren't for you.
I quoted part of your post, that's how quotes work, they are not required to contain everything.

Current estimates are AI will affect 10% of employment.
Nothing in life is a free and the only thing free is shit.

Adapt or suffer.
Do you think when tractors became available,
people with horses just rolled over and begged the government for money?

Only ai not including advancement in automation or general purposes robots dlin development.
All this topic about is UBI and the correlation with AI and robotics.
But since you want to talk about wasting government spending let's talk about that wall that didn't do a thing and costed us a ton of money,or all the support we have sent Ukraine just for us next month more then likely forcing them into a unconditional surrender wasting every penny spent supporting them.

Also funny thing you brought up farmers
https://www.nal.usda.gov/economics-business-and-trade/agricultural-subsidies#:~:text=The%20government%20provides%20agricultural%20subsidies,%2C%20risk%20mitigation%2C%20and%20more.

And no immigrants should not be allowed to collect UBI so forget that

The country's debt increases from tons of dumb spending why can't this be one?
Maybe make the UBI scale with hours worked to incentive

There is problems that can arise like any government bill, done the right way it would help the country but your also right, done wrong it could destroy out country

You sound poor and your reading comprehension is a contributing factor to your economic woes.
e- flame #2 ^

Farmers with horses had to adapt to changing technology, given the advent of tractors.
