I read the novel around 1984 to i985. Hoping to get the Title of the book as I did not complete the last chapters.

It was a paperback book in reference to Siegfried the son of Wodin (Odin) laid out in the first chapter.

Basically the first chapter referred to these things:

Wodin was wondering around and came across a Village (viking) and asked for safe haven: (based on the promise that no conflict [killing] would happen during his time there.).

During Wodins' stay, he slept with a woman of stature and impregnated her (neither of them had known this) and he (Wodin/Odin) left the next day on his merry way... however, no one noticed "Loki" lurking about ... etc.

So, this woman had a child, named him Seigfried (spelling).

That is how it started, and basically the story is about Seigfried and his adventures falling in love, Loki being mischievous and killing a Dragon etc (that is where I left it because Seigfried became jealous etc).

Can not remember the title of the paperback book... hope someone knows it... thanks.

Sounds like som kind of fantasy mix with the german saga " Nibelungenlied" as a base.

Together with the old variat "Völsungasaga" and a twist of Starkad(norse/germanian variant of herkules)

hope this helps your search or that you discover more fun stuff to read.

Thanks for your post, I did not state that the title of the book was in English, however, I will look into some of those that you have mentioned here.

If I recall (been like 40 odd years ago) that Seigfried (spelling) was given the title of a Dragon Slayer in this book, also about a Dwarf that helped create his weapon.

Again, thanks.

Was it written as normal novel? There is Richard Wagner's opera that has been translated to probably all languages, but yeah you read it as opera with things like "Scene one", cast, including what voices they use etc

“CAST
Siegmund tenor, Hunding bass, Wotan high bass, Sieglinde soprano, Brünnhilde soprano, Fricka soprano
Valkyries: Gerhilde, Ortlinde, Waltraute, Schwertleite, Helmwige, Siegrune, Grimgerde, Rossweisse, soprano and contralto”
