You've got it precisely backwards, so you know. Healthcare and Insurance were not particularly wound together until AFTER the passage of the ACA. And no, a public option was not in any way viable in place of the ACA. Public options had zero support. The primary purpose of the ACA was to force support for the public option. And the driving method to do it was the individual mandate, which REQUIRED people to pay for insurance, a financial service, or be fined a few grand come tax season. It was a government money laundering scam that would guarantee that EVERYONE would have to pay for insurance no matter what, destroy the CHOICE of individuals on how to handle their own finances, and push a bunch of pissed off people into a public option just to make the fines and exorbitant rates to stop. The plan failed because of Trump's EO that ended the Individual Mandate. Notice that that's one of the very few EO's of Trump that Biden did NOT undo. Ever wonder why? Even Biden understood that trying to demand 16 year olds working their first job at McDonalds, saving up for a new car, be paying $800 a month on insurance wasn't going to fly.

You're showing your ignorance yet once again. We have generics for the overwhelming majority of prescription drugs, and have more than a few types of drugs that're simply over the counter and don't require prescription at all that you do not.

The bottom line is that the US Pharma industry charges the rest of the world better rates OR gives away drugs (Africa) freely, and they subsidize that by charging the US Customer base 4x-400x what they were charging in January 2008. And it was the 80% revenue being spent on patients clause of the ACA that not only allowed, but forced such an outcome. When insurance companies are REQUIRED to negotiate HIGHER prices for their customers, or face going out of business, there was no other options. Thousands of insurance companies that no longer exist provide more examples than are needed, by far.

Everything you believe is bullshit. Financial services neither harm nor help people, typically. Financial services are not healthcare. If you want to claim harm, why aren't you throwing a fit about doctors charging tens of thousands for small things that take less than an hour of their time? Why aren't you throwing a fit over pharma companies continually hiking rates on medicines that have been around for longer than you've been alive, and are cheaper than ever to produce?
