Current status is 2 dead and dozens injured, including 15 in critical condition.
The attack was carried out with a rental car, not a truck.
The presumptive attacker was arrested by the police, has been confirmed to be a 50 year old man Saudi Arabian nationality who has been living in Germany since 2006, has a permanent residency permit and had been working as a physician in a nearby small town.

There is a video circulating on X where you can see the presumptive attacker gets out of the car and lie flat on his stomach with his hands behind his head, waiting for the police to arrest him. So chances that he's not the perpetrator are basically zero.

The clip shows scenes from this year's Christmas market in Magdeburg. You can see some sort of "antifa stand" which was selling gingerbread with iced letters spelling "fck afd", "fck nzs" and "antifascisme, c'est normale". The huge LED screen on the church tower overseeing the central city square was spelling "Gegen Rechts", which translates to "against right(-wing politics/parties)".
