I think part of the issue here is that you're listening to an argument that is being made on behalf of those who are against "transition treatment", rather than BY those who are against it, and making far different arguments. Very few indeed are the people who truly oppose transition treatment/surgery and are trying to use school shootings as a point in favor of that stance. The majority of us view the suicide rate being completely unchanged pre-treatment and post-treatment, and violence rates as a whole being much higher among those who receive so-called "treatment" aka validation of their mental illness, rather than proper, psychiatric treatment.

Those who wish to outlaw guns may be stupid, but they have a legitimate point: If there were no guns, you couldn't shoot up a school. The problem is, there are guns everywhere. Australia still has millions and millions of guns. So does the UK. There are still shootings everywhere. You can't unmake the knowledge of how to make guns. I can make guns. I can make ammunition. Assuming I have the base materials. It's not hard. They have no grasp of the reality that what's being discussed isn't lethality of a weapon, or amount of people killed by the weapon. If they did grasp that reality, they'd be targeting handguns, the #1 tool used for murder in in the US, and possibly #1 on the planet. Yet handguns are fine when rifles that are seldom used in crime are targeted? Weird.

Likewise, only one side of both arguments has a rational answer. Rational answer for school shootings: Train and arm teachers, staff, and/or security. There's a reason over 90% of all mass shootings in the US occurs in "gun free zones". Make the consequence of attempting to murder children immediate, real, and very, very final, and fewer people target children. It works. With the mentally ill, stop validating their mental illness, stop caving to demands for special treatment, and instead properly treat their illness. Isn't it funny that "trans murderers" weren't a topic of consideration 20 years ago? What changed in the last 20 years?

im glad we have converged on agreement. i hate legitimization of mental illness, and i hate new wave treatments for transgender people. i simply choose to focus in more on minors because i think it saves more lives and i think thats where the main danger lies currently. also my libertarian beliefs tend to lean towards let consenting adults do just about anything that doesnt violate the NAP.

as to guns again agreed, advocates against gun ownership are illogical dreamers. even if SOMEHOW guns were "banned" it would take hundreds of years to even make a dent in actual guns in the population and there are now 3d printed ghost guns.

You see, here's the problem with "allow adults to do what adults want to do". First, I agree with that. However, I do NOT agree with "allow DOCTORS to do what they want to do." The transition therapy/surgery field of... Medicine... Went from non-existent to a multi-billion dollar industry overnight. And once again, the truest comparison would be with the other type of body dysmorphia, where the patient wants a limb amputated. The law says that a doctor can NOT amputate a perfectly viable limb just because the patient requested it. It does not MATTER what the patient wants. The result is final, irreversible, and horrific. Transition therapy/surgery is no different whatsoever.

The Hippocratic oath, while not legally binding, has a very simple point: Doctors who do harm cannot be trusted. The more the medical field as a whole pushes this, the more clear it becomes they don't give a fuck about children, they just want money. And the easiest way to get billions? Convince virtue-signaling idiots to put their child through a "transition" that will require millions in medications, counseling, and surgeries. Bonus points? When the child eventually comes to the realization of just how badly they were mutilated? 41% chance they commit suicide, and no lawsuits will occur. It'll be great!

When it comes to doctors, specifically, it's a non-harm principle. If any procedure is performed that is not required to maintain a functioning human, or harms the functionality of a human without providing an equivalent good, then that procedure is not valid and should never be considered. Example being ripping out an appendix, that's harm, but the alternative is death, so it's not too much harm, right? Example of harm with no positive? Sterilizing a perfectly functioning 19 year old woman, pumping her full of testosterone, and ripping a bunch of flesh from her thigh to build her a completely non-functional penis.

At this point, there's an entire multibillion dollar industry worth of doctors guilty of extreme human experimentation and mutilation that all deserve to be executed.

a trans kid shoots up a school and people on the right say "see hormones and blockers shouldn't go to kids".

both are illogical, because neither "ban" would guarantee the kid wouldn't shoot up a school

if we get to the point where gender reassignment surgery is coerced, sure. as it is its a bunch of greedy doctors in an offshoot of plastic surgery (already a disgusting branch of medicine to begin with) that are doing what the patient wants. obviously a large part of why they want that may be because some psycho shrink and a bunch of trans advocates told them (falsely) how great it will make them feel. its basically breast implants but with sterilization as a side effect, not exactly people im dying to have in the gene pool.

as compared to kids who get told by adults they are told to trust that some brew of chemicals will make them feel great and if they chop off their breasts they'll be happy. all while they're too young to consent.

its really night and day to me.

You don't believe it's coerced? Why do people get banned from social media, youtube, etc. for being critical of transgender therapy and surgery? Why are politicians, business owners, CEOs, shamed for not supporting? Why are parents of children the parent has convinced to "transition" being brought on to news media in places like CNN and MSNBC and paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to share their story of "bravery"? Why is "trans" being pushed in so many hollywood movies, why are there so many "trans" netflix specials?

I was pretty shocked. Was looking through some numbers one day and noticed that there was a school district where 60% of first through fifth graders identified as trans. Almost like it's a fad, rather than a dangerous mental illness.

let's be specific:

do i think many people especially those in the public eye are coerced to follow the LGBTQA+ line of thinking under threat of cancellation? yes.

do i think trans people themselves are coereced to cut off their genitalia? no. given false info? yes. but not coercion to me nearly as much as the above.

in any case the pendulum is swinging back in many ways. and thats good.

You don't believe that censoring the facts while propagandizing non-existent benefits is coercion? How about the fact that the companies that produce the therapy drugs are massive advertisers on all the listed programs AND some of the largest lobbyists in DC?

Have you really started asking questions yet?

this is semantics bobb. you asked if i think it's coercion. no. do i think it's good? no.

coercion simply means to me "make you do it". i dont put guiding action by omitting facts into that. its still bad, but not coercion to me.

luckily a lot of this is starting to self correct even as the industries behind these are growing, in the macro view i hope the groups against these lobbies continue to educate people about the horrors that can result.

like if you asked me if "trans sex changes" would be a significant exit poll answer in a presidential election among independent voters say 2 years ago i'd say no, thats just not a mainstream issue yet. but here we are.

If nonstop advertising, most especially to children, and using advertising dollars to get shows that tell inconvenient truth removed from the networks isn't coercion, why did RJ Reynolds have to stop their Joe Camel advertisements?

Are you sure you know what you're talking about, even from a basic legal standard?

manipulation, misinformation, etc.

coercion legally requires in all statues im aware of threats, force and/or intimidation.

now as i said above public figures and media personalities and even networks are being coerced to present a set of messaging. but i was responding to whether the trans people themselves are being coerced, to which id say no. they're being manipulated through media which is being coerced.

from a basic legal standing i attended, but did not graduate, law school. about 12 years ago at this point.
